I thought GCSE's were meant too be easy these days?
So my tip will be: Don't fall asleep in the exam room![]()

Yer - impossible. Got my first one (RE)
On the 18th
Need to start revision -ahh-
Not really, post your Router/Modem to somebody them have them send it back once the exams are over.![]()
And why would they do that? All work and no play makes icysniper a stressed boy. If you're stressed you can't do well in an exam. Trust me.
I did Music too, as long as you did a decent composition the exam was pretty much a breeze to pass
Revise them all.
When you're older though, depending on what career you're looking at, you might need to have strong Maths, English and/or Science.
Generally a C and above in the core subjects are all anyone cares about, but some 'top' companies will demand - especially if they were financial for example - B in Maths or above.
If you want to go to Oxbridge, you ideally want to get amazing GCSEs now.
As has been said, it's obviously a new experience to you, but by the time you come to do university education, you'll realise just how easy they were in terms of examination.
Don't stress, don't procrastinate. Be strict with yourself and put the effort in now. It will pay off.
I'm doing GCSES too. My first is in 8 days too, I think
Got core science and maths out of the way last year
I don't feel prepared.
What subjects are you doing? Which book are you doing for english? What grades are you aiming for?
Me personally, I'm only revising for subjects that are before half term at the moment.
How confident are you in geography? I think it's an easy subject, and personally, I reckon anyone could get at least a B without even studying the syllabus.
Are you doing the 4 way comparison in English? I haven't even learnt the poems yet
Just revise and give yourself plenty of time and you'll be fine
Also take short breaks after every hour of revision so your mind has a chance to absorb what it is you've told it, any longer and generally most people find it harder to remember information they've learnt. I guess doing a Psychology degree helps sometimes![]()
Oh, and I did 'Of Mice and Men' for GCSE. I enjoyed that book.
Revise.
Are you revising yet? If not you should be.
Just edited my post with some information that may be useful.
In the Mock i wrote a load of crap lol
Why do people believe in religion: "They believe in everything they are told or they are mad.
Waste of 1h 45mins!
How does geog mark scheme work for your board? I'm doing iGCSE geog, and in the mark scheme you can get up to 6/7 even without naming a specific place!
Also, most of the time, if you don't know a case study, then you can easily make one up in the exam.
Off the top of my head
eg: low population density: Sahara, Amazon rainforest, north america.
Food shortage: Zimbabwe
Birth control: China
Ageing population: any medc, eg France
Don't worry mate, case studies are easy![]()
They would go, jesus?
I'm also really dreading the IT exam, because they have nothing to do with IT. For example, in the last mock, the question asked me to describe how someone would store data for supermarket groceries using a database. I created a long, detailed answer on how to go about creating and entering data into a database, when the actual answer was "draw a table on some paper". Seriously? And that's about 10% of the overall marks? Ugh. Also, due to the way the "uniform marks" are calculated (i.e. the more marks you get, the greater the number your mark is multiplied by to get the uniform mark), those last 5 marks can actually equate to 8-10 uniform marks lost, which is more than an entire grade.
Plus the fact that the IT exams are all about making sure you interpret the question correctly, and not the actual IT knowledge, means you can't even revise for them![]()
haha, i dont know
IT exams are annoying
Luckely for me i have done my business exam (end of year 10) and my other subject is called COPE. 2 B grades and ALL coursework
Past papers are all good and well, but they shouldn't be used as the main resource for revision. If an exam has been written properly it should be testing your understanding in a subject and not your ability to rote learn. You sometimes get those belters that no one has ever seen before.
I remember once a proof for something came up and it was worth 14% of the paper, heard some very creative cusses from people after the exam
Anyways best of luck with your GCSE's, it gets much harder from there.
Did mine last year.
Main thing is to revise, everyone does things differently. I found reading through my revision notes before I went to sleep was good, as I remembered them the following morning exactly. And didn't need to go over them again.
I'd go through every past paper that you've got availlable, then any questions you get wrong go over multiple examples of them.
During an exam, what I tend to do is plan my answer before I answer any questions, just jotting down how to answer the question before I attempt anything, that way even if I do panic, I know how to answer the next question.
For english, planning both peices is crutial before, practice writing up plans for questions, should be aiming to spend 15 mins on writing plans for both. That way, you can write up your plan when your concentrations gone.
If you can find mark schemes for past questions they tend to be useful to see what the examiners are looking for.
sounds like a good idea especially for Eng Lit
What stories you even got to do anyway?
Mice and Men and Inspector Calls -- is what i got to. Think I'm all set on them really. Read 3 times each. Watched the film and tv film so should be set
=S, we got to do 2 for Eng lit.
Different exam board maybe? I think ours is like WJEC
http://www.wjec.co.uk/uploads/papers/s09-0153-01.pdf
Can't even remember all of my courseworks lol. Umm Sherlock Holmes (loved it), can't remember others haha.
I still think exams are dum - how much you can write in 'x minutes'.
I can't write quick so =/ But what i do write is generally good. Well top of my class at least
I hate the thought of sitting down outside of school hours revision and writing things.. i get distracted...
Totally Off topic but what has everyone been told for 'study leave'?
Apparently there hasn't been one legally for like 8 years. For our mocks they were like 'we wont register you so..' (cough cough, go home)
This time they are stricter and its like lessons will be on etc. But i still think a lot of people won't turn up
For our lessons, we have to go in until all the exams for that subject are over, then we don't have to. I have thursdays pretty much free now, since my engineering course is completely finished and 4/5 lessons are engineering on that day![]()
