Planes - best place to sit?

I always thought the front was the least turbulant, as in the pilots don't notice so much when they go through it. Also get one of you on an aisle seat so that you can get in and out to the toilets if needs be, also more legroom as you can stretch into the aisle when they're not trying to sell you things.

In the cockpit, flying the plane ;)

Nice!

As far as safety goes, the British SAS regiment always travel in the tail. It's the most likely part of the plane to survive as the tail will commonly snap off, it's not next to fuel lines, isn't prone to being crushed by the engines or wings and provides the most cover. If the plane is going down you've not got much chance of survival but the tail provides the most.

The seatguru site looks like an excellent site for the most comfortable seat. Nice tip lads! The site is setup surprisingly well, providing the option to look up your flight number to locate the plane model.

Does it matter? Would you like advice on which seat of the bus to sit on too?

Of course it matters because different seats will give you a different comfort experience and when over a 2+ hour flight makes a big difference to me.
I like to sit on the end so I can sometimes stretch my legs out into the walkway, near to the bog, near to a decent view of the TV screen and so on.
None of this will make a blind bit of difference to safety though because if you fall out of the air you die.
If you land in the water you will die from cold.

wings i think....and by a escape route and pack a parachute. :)

in all seriousness it wont really matter that much if it crashes - everyone will be ****ed. but then theres more chance of you being killed getting to the plane then there is when your on it.

i almost was involved in an accident twice now on planes, the first coming into singapore (where the plane makes a u turn approach and the pilot clearly overestimated the turning radius and had the wings pretty up in the air)

an the second with ryanair to put me off ever flying with them again - this was coming back from spain on landing and the pilot clearly again had decelerated to much and was in know way with the VASI/ILS. and literally thought the plane was going to bottom out and hit the trees! and i wasnt the only one either......

Best for me was when I was placed in the middle of the plane and had an extra leg space :) was wicked at that time. It's the emergency exit in the middle of the plane, shame you have a wing outside your window though.

I will also be flying to Turkey on Thursday with my wife and 3 year old so have been looking at seats and have come to the conclusion that sitting relatively close to the toilets so when my little boy says "i want a wee wee" we don't have to drag him through the whole plane, Unfortunately the best seats are the one's infants can't sit in.

Also depends on what views you want, obviously won't see anything over the wing and the engines will be louder.

Exit seats are the best (I'm 6'6" my knees crunch up against the seat in front and it becomes quite painful sometimes.) but if not (I don't blame em, your toddler doesn't need the extra room, us big men do :p)
Toward the centre near the wings, least turbulent, the further you get from the wings the less balanced the plane is. Well thats what my doctor said anyway, I suffer from awful plane sickness on the odd flight.

Hi all,

Going to turkey with the family (4yr old, 21 month old and the mrs and I).

Wheres the best place to sit? Thought it would be the ones by the exits as they have more legroom but not allowed to have the infant there.

Any ideas?

ta

On a seat.

What plane is it first then you can look it up.

There is a site for this somewhere LMGTFY.

Long haul, it's worth stumping up for business class to get away from screaming kids and fatties.

Single class planes, I prefer the back or front close to the exits so I can get off the plane quickly and not get stuck behind slow pokes which usually include 80% of the passengers.

Come on it's a holiday flight to Turkey he isn't exactly going to be flying Emirates :p

Derail inc but...

Do you have any experience with Emirates? (Or anyone in this thread for that matter) I might chose them over some other airlines even if it means a few hours to a 12 hour flight because their Economy is so well equipped compared to other airlines.

Hello power in economy for a laptop?

Although I understand "feature availability may differ on some aircraft and routes" but would this sort of thing be pretty boggo standard for an Emirates flight?

Edit - http://www.seatguru.com/airlines/Emirates_Airlines/Emirates_Airlines_Boeing_777-300ER_3class.php

Gives it a thumbs up :D

I have experience of flying long haul with Emirates and I've only had power sockets twice in ecconomy class.

But yes it's one of the best carriers for long haul flights.
