Clegg and the lib dems should go down in history as the party that blackmailed gordon brown and went against their unspoken word to the torys - all to allow them to get into power, power hungry. They have no dignity and jumbled policies.

Limpek has said that a Rainbow Coalition would be pretty dangerous because of the many parties it would require. Nick Clegg is calling all the shots. It is like blind date, with them all wanting Nick. Lib/Con is more likely to get AV implemented because it is unlikely Labour will have a majority to push it through. Offering a referendum might be the best option.

I don't understand why there are so many systems being thrown around.

What's wrong with this system?

National AV.
Number of seats allocated on result of that with winning party given at least 50%.
Local AV.
Elected MP's put in their parties seats.

Strong government.
Proportional representation (mostly).
No hung parliaments.
Majority happy with elected government.

Nick Clegg:

"clean up politics once and for all."

"We will deliver the new politics - fair votes"

"I'm here to persuade you that there is an alternative. Don't let anyone tell you the only choice is old politics. We can do something new."

And, somewhat apt (although not what he intended to mean):

"And so my warning to people who think the old politics still works, is be careful for what you wish for.""

Don't underestimate the stupidity of the general population. Some of them find it hard enough understanding the current system of putting an X in a box.

On second thought that's actually a good idea. If you're too stupid to work out how to vote then you don't deserve a vote! \o/

We still haven't seen exactly how AV will work, until that gets detailed it'll be hard to say much.
Perhaps they are going for AV+, or maybe a some sort of hybrid.

I <3 David Cameron.
You realise AV would have given Labour a bigger majority in 2005, and also would give Lib/Lab an overall majority in 2010 too - in other words the same position as now but instead of a coalition of 'all parties' - Lib/Lab could have formed one alone.

And also that when GB offered a referendum on AV before the election, the Tories described it as 'fiddling the system' against them?

You do realise that AV is all that Labour are offering too?

The only difference is that Labour are offering to ram it down our throats and the Tories are offering it to the people to decide.

yes, I am just offering the information.

Have the tories now put all their cards on the table?

That's because the current boundaries have been drawn to favour Labour to the maximum.

The Tories also propose the redrawing of the boundaries to make them of equal size and therefore far more neutral and far less Labour biased. Once this is completed the AV system would not be so Labour biased.
