Insurance Premiums Rising

Admiral/Bell/Elephant /whatever else they own lowered mine on renewall, and I managed to haggle them not charging extra for me getting a new car as I had to wait on the phone for 30min :/

Mine was £340 last year for an '04 Clio 1.5dCI and they upped it to close on £400 this year (no points or claims, 9+yrs no claims). Had a look around (i.e. rang people didnt just use insurance comparison sites) and managed to get it for £320 which also included protected no claims that the orignal quote didnt have.

Just to really wind me up, i bought the missus a car last weekend, a 1.9SDI '03 plate polo. She's never had insurance before but has been named on mine for 4yrs, her new policy with 0yrs no claims is £320......... :(

Mine came down every year till a few years back and just went down a £2 a month with Tesco, pay monthly and last year got a great deal with morethan it went down about £10 a month and this year its gone up £2 a month but its still the cheapest quote I can get.

Running some quotes for a £6k celica/325i/ci (IG 15/16/16), 2 years ncb, 26, winchester, and getting quotes of £600 onwards for fully comp.

Indeed, when you try and explain to the insurance co. the standard response is; "It doesn't work that way Mr etc" - it wouldn't would it?

I put it down too, rightly or wrongly, the insurance companies giving you extra discount to get you on board then wacking it up after a year, hoping you won't bother changing.

I change every single year, as someone will always offer you less than your renewal.

Got my renewal quote last week. With an additional NCB and only having to replace my windscreen (chips), they've quoted me around the same as I paid last year - ~£1,000 FC with all the trimmings (breakdown cover etc.) Infact I think it's even higher than last year. Quick browse on comparison sites sees this can be dropped by a couple hundred.

if you phone up the company who gave you the cheapest price on comprison sites you should be able to reduce it down again :)

Similar situation for me, last year my renewal was more expensive even though it was for the same group 14 car that id owned for 5 years, i had 8 years experience and never had a claim

Put it down to me moving to a dodgier area of coventry, although this year i've switched again to somewhere thats a lot nicer in warwick

One would have thought it'd be down to the extortionate rise in legal fees and costs. It really needs to be capped now lawyers are almost as bad as bankers, they do sod all charge outrageous amounts for doing it.

After speaking to one of my colleagues who is a trainee actuary, the underwriters have had to repsond to the failure of Quinn Direct. Due to their collapse, a lot of higher risk younger drivers have been added to the insurer's books and they have had to respond by increasing the premiums for under 30s. This seems to explain things.
