? what is your point.

Clegg is a whore, they will get creamed in next election.

my point is as a life long libdem voter and member of the party, and considering most of their campaigning is to keep the tories out and take their posh seats, its a disgrace that they are now jumping into bed with posh toff boy and his bunch of ****s.

Any coalition deal has to be passed by two thirds of the parliamentary members and federal committee of the libdems, thats not going to be easy with the anti tory hardline members of these committees.

I didnt vote lib dem to prop up a tory party that failed to win an election against the shoddy labour party, both the tories and the libdems are politically miles apart in ideology

SHOCKING!

Two people who are well placed to get a hold of this information have told me that Lib Dems have dropped the amnesty plans.

Will be on Sky News any moment now.

I don't quite get the point about the LibDems 'giving' Conservatives power. Let's be honest, the only realistic options were a Tory minority government, or a Tory/LibDem coalition and it looks like the LibDems have wrung their fair share of concessions out of the Tories in exchange for their support.

Not really, up until yesteday a "rainbow coalition" was very much an option. Ed Balls messed that one up so the Lib-Dems went back to the tories.

Nah no chance, that was just used by the LibDems to wring out some further concessions, I don't think it was ever realistically an option.

Put it this way, as was mentioned the LD's have had a number of meetings, the Tories have had a number of meetings, the Labour MPs haven't had anything of the sort - if it was a serious suggestion it would have been far more considered than a few rumours and Clegg spending 15 minutes on the phone to GB.

The Tory hating Lib Dems need to realise that the country comes first and this coalition is very much primarily in the countries best interest. These two parties are best placed to try and turn things around for us after thirteen years of Labour waste and financial suicide.

Key negotiation tactic. Pretend something is important and give it up to get something else.

Anybody know if this thread is a record yet?

Absolutly, I would've fallen off my chair if that policy was adopted, I doubt the LD's really care much about it, after all they can now say that it's up to the Tories to sort the problem of illegal immigration as they rejected their proposal. Win-win pretty much.

Sky were reporting that as Chief negotiator for the Labour party he wouldn't give any ground on the Labour Manifesto.
LOLSky - as if that would be the case.

So what happens in four years time if the Lib Dem/Conservative Coalition lasts and is very successful?
People go - oh look, hung Parliaments aren't as disastrous as the Tories made them out to be, maybe we should look at a more proportional system of governance? :p

Seriously I am going to join Alastair Campbell and start shouting at Adam Boulton in a minute if he says any more "er"s. Driving me nuts, he literally said about 8 in a sentence a minute ago, was like "he er will er be er coming er out er in a er minute"
