Hey everyone

I'm looking at buying this ssd to replace my samsung F3 as my Win7 OS disk. I only ever use around 50GB on my C: drive (office, adobe creative suite, steam/left for dead 2, itunes, browser, printer drivers), so space won't be a problem. 80Gb will be more then enough.

I will be using my F3 as a storage drive for files and music etc.

Being a complete noob to the ssd world I just want to ask if anyone has encountered any issues using this ssd?

I only ran into problems trying to get into my 4yr old PC, but I think the motherboard just didnt like sata connections alltogether. It worked fine on my newer(2yrs) PC. I put 7 on it and photoshop, the speeds are just...wow !

Well I got over-excited and bought one just now.

I've been reading thats its recommended to enable achi on the mobo before installing it. Will this mess up any normal HDDs I already have installed?

EDIT: Also does the drive from OCUK come with a 2.5" to 3.5" adaptor?

I didnt enable anything, so cant say :p .

And I presume if it comes in the original box then you do get an adaptor :)

I don't think it'll come with the adapter. Mine did (bought elsewhere) but the part code has R5 at the end of it to denote 'retail'. I think quite a few people just leave them loose in their case providing the case is'nt move often.
WHen I bought mine I wasn't aware it came with the adapter and didn't care as it's installed in a laptop. I would let you have it but I may get another larger SSD for my desktop machine later and will use it in that if I find a cheaper OEM price (rather than retail)

I have one on a Toshiba laptop which doesn't have ACHI setting however if I run the Intel toolbox once a week it's fine. Did once report the drive was full when it is only about half full. Ran the toolbox and it was fine. Just had chkdisk run when I rebooted but all was fine and only took a few mins to complete. The speed is so much of a bonus any fiddling around is still only a fraction of the time it used to take to reboot, almost 5mins with Vista!!

if you plannign to reinstall windows onto the SSD then it shouldn't be a problem at all.

your other drives will function the same as well.

however, if you plan to simply copy an existing installation onto the SSD, then u could have problems, as windows wont boot when set to AHCI.
for this, you first need to make a registry edit in windows to tell it to install new drivers on the next load, this will allow it to boot, and install the AHCI drivers instead of the basic SATA ones

make sure you disconnect your other drives before installing win7 on your ssd too - will avoid windows putting system files/boot files on the other drives.

I'm installing my Ssd now and have set the sata to achi. The ssd shows up as scsi for some reason. Is this a problem?

Yes it likely means you aren't using the Microsoft or latest RST Intel AHCI driver and won't be getting TRIM passed to the drive.

Well thats no good. I've been using the drive (installed all my programs) and its been fine so far. It only shows up as SCSI in the bios.

How would I go about finding and installing the latest firmware?

I put the file onto the cd but for some reason the cd will not boot (I have set it as first priority in the bios). I have the latest bios (since abit shutdown its a year old now). Here is a picture of my device manager showing which controller I have.

Also according to Intel's information pdf the current firmware my X 25-M is running (firmware: 2CV102HA using msahci - info from AS SSD benchmark) supports TRIM. Is this correct?

The controller is fine. When burning the ISO you aren't just burning the file to a disk are you? You need to select the option to burn a disk image.

I reburned the disc using infrarecorder selecting the "write image" function which should "write the contents of a disc image to cd".

Its still not booting from cd-rom. Could it be because I have the bios set to AHCI and not IDE thats preventing booting from cd-rom?
