Who you voted against is meaningless. I would have been quite happy to vote for two different canditdates in my constituency.

Due to the lack of campaigning in my area I didn't hear much about several of the candidates though. I almost didn't vote in the local election due to lack of info.

Paddy for secretary of state for defence is a brilliant appointment if true.

LOL WHY DID the population HATE it? Ask yourself the question? ;)

Hint: If you lived in an area of high unemployment (they didn't pay) and low income how much would you have to pay? ;)

Hint 2 : If you lived in an affluent area with low unemployment and high income how much would you have to pay ? ;)

Not rocket science is it?

Exactly the same since you are an equal drain - thus making the system FAIR. If the council are unable to raise the funds needed to fund local services then they need to cut the services they offer - until they can afford to provide them.

FLAT tax rates are the MOST fair system, as you pay the same percentage.

How depressing will it be to hear all the lefty morons whining about cuts when it's their beloved left government who got us into the position where we need the cuts due to their irresponsible overspending.

Why must it be the cutting parties fault? They didn't create the insane deficit or massive debt, it was Labour and only Labour.

The polltax was hated by the majority of the UK population were you of an age to have paid the tax? I wonder if you were Rypt?

google poll tax riots... might give you a general feeling of just how hated they were.

It is thought that the riot in central London, with the countrywide opposition to the Community Charge (especially vehement in the North of England and Scotland) contributed to the downfall of Margaret Thatcher, who resigned as Prime Minister in November the same year, defending the tax when opinion polls were showing 2% support for it. The next Prime Minister, John Major, announced it would be abolished.

I paid it, but yes I can imagine why it wouldn't be hugely popular with people who don't think it's fair to pay their own way.

The way I saw it, I lived on my own, so I was a much smaller drain than the family down the road with 7 kids/teenagers living at home - they are a bigger drain on resources than me, so it's only fair they pay more.

Get a grip, Orange got the least number of votes of the main parties. They are lucky to be in the position they are - a coalition is the Lib Dems ONLY chance of power. They are usually a marginal party at best.

It's also the Conservatives only change of a stable Government for the moment. They've both benefited.

I was looking at the bigger picture
At least CLEGG gets a good view of cams backside when sitting in the commons as deputy leader

1976 ring a bell? I believe it had something to do with the IMF in that year

Yep, that was the last time Labour bankrupted the country. We had to go cap in hand to the IMF then like Greece have now.
Three cheers for the financial messes Labour leave for another party to clear up. :(
I just wish we had a Thatcher figure to raise this country up off it's knees again. It wasn't pretty, it wasn't popular at the time, but it worked and even Labour were living off that legacy once they came into power years after her political demise.
Please bear in mind that I come from the industrial North that was affected most by Thatchers policies but I still belive it was the bad tasting medicine that saved the whole country from the coma it was languishing in due to Labours usual financial incompetence.
