Our Legacy GTB gets about 16-18mpg from a cold start and only slightly higher when it's cruising. They're not economical but I knew that before purchasing so it doesn't bother me too much. Well, not at all actually, especially when I'm driving it with a sense of determination and vigour ;)

Think you might have the wrong thread :p

My current job ... but about 10 or so years ago ... I was working in another team down in Reading with a specific Customer. It was just a really nice group to work with and we all got on so well. The work was interesting and we had minimal interference from the rest of the company.

The Customer trusted us to look after their systems and we had a lot of things in place there, in terms of standards, policies and working practices which are only just being attempted (badly) at being put in place elsewhere in the company. This meant that the work was made so much easier and more fun, (there was another team with the same number of servers and workload at the same time elsewhere in the company and they were three times our size and had ten times our incidents because they didn't have the same things in place as us (but didn't want to adopt our practices as it would mean less overtime for them)).

Go into civils. Roadworks, bridges, etc. It's messy but the pay is awesome and the people great without any airs hiding behind desks and elaborate, meaningless job titles. The hours can be brutal towards the end of a project but the overwhelming majority of times it's great. There was an article a few years back on how much road workers actually earn which peed people so off that we had stuff thrown at us from cars along with some hilarious abuse. Stupid and jealous will be stupid and jealous.

Saying that, if your thing is sitting infront of a PC typing up reports nobody is going to read, trying to hide you forum addiction every time your supervisor swings round to feign interest, then perhaps physical work isn't going to suit you too well. A strong body and mind is needed as winters in this country is testing at best :p

2 days work at Cosworth in Northampton. Memorable because of 2 reasons.

1. Its where they make all the engines for F1, Nascar, Indycar, WRC. My job of surveying the entire company gave me unrestricted access to the whole place.

2. The 2 days I worked were September 10th 2001 and September 11th 2001. Yeah not gonna forget this job.

As title, it can be anything at any point in your life.

What was the best job you've ever had?

What was it doing?

What made it so special?
Summer job as a lifeguard for the outdoor pools in Portsmouth when I was 18. Particularly that it was

- outside
- paid around £8 an hour which was good back then
- council rules meant you worked 30 mins on, 30 mins off with full pay for the hour

But mainly that the 'pool' I was 'lifeguarding' was 1ft deep at the 'deep end' - it was the kiddies pool as the main lido was closed :D So basically the job entailed lounging in the sunshine for half and hour eyeing up the yummy mummies, then taking half an hour off to lounge in the sunshine elsewhere, punctuated occasionally by having to walk into the pool to upright a toddler who'd fallen over or putting plasters on banged toes.

Was awesome :p

That said, I may be trumping it with my upcoming job, which is a summer working in a California Beach State Park, basically lounging in the sunshine helping out generally with tourists on shifts of 7:30-2pm or 3pm-10pm, meaning the mornings or afternoons of those days will be spent on the beach surfing and lounging around. Damn I like these summer jobs :p

I've just lost the best job I've ever had which was between April 2008 and April 2010 but my contract came to an end.

Every day was different and my jobs included -
Support Officer to 75 Young Apprentices
Support Officer to 6 Student Apprentices
Delivering lessons to school children at the hospital
Careers Fairs
3D technology
Producing books, leaflets, brochures
Writing CDs with Expression Web 2
Making films with 2 HD cameras and Adobe Premiere
Facilitating Corporate Induction
Facilitating Statutory Mandatory days
Delivering basic computer skills
Administrator for 3 NHS web based programs including e-KSF.
and so on .................................

My mistake was to accept a secondment just as a new Manager came into the department and nothing I do matches up to my contract.
It was then seen that the 14-19 Team could work without me and I was out of a job :(
I'm still mentally trying to get to grips with the loss of the job especially with the new job I'm doing which I'm not enjoying at the moment (but it is getting better).

Well back in the day when i was young and reckless i was a motorcycle courier rider, which while it was a cool job, well for a 19 year old motorcycle nut it was great, around £3000 a week and racing about on a bike all day and this was 25 years ago but anyway it wasn't they whole job that was great but one particular day.
i had the call to head over to biggin hill airport where the tvs television crew were were doing a piece and i had to collect the tape and bring it back to the maidstone television studios. Things started out OK with me arriving only to find that the tv crew had only just started filming so i had to wait, which in its self was a complete bind up until i found out that they were filming a program on a playboy photo shoot. so i got to stand around and wait for an hour and a half 30 feet way from lots of gorgeous women proudly bearing their all for the camera and then doing interviews for the tv crew. matters only got better due to the plane they were draped all over as it was Gary Newman's so i got to have a really good conversation with him while drinking tea eyeing up and commenting on a bevy of beauties. those were the days.

Woolworths....

Couldnt beat being on the entertainment counter with your mates, outside of work aswell :D. I do miss the place but time move on.

Working at the Odeon.

i was 18, i was surrounded by people my age and slightly older, they were the first group of friends i'd made since leaving school and were a better group of friends than those i had at school. Everybody got on well. We basically owned the place and would usually be there till 2am or 3am long after doors had shut, eating pick'n'mix, watching movies before their release, riding our bikes down the stairs and around the screens etc. Colleagues who were out on the town on a friday or saturday would turn up when all the bars had shut and we'd all pile back to someones house nearby.

Great times.

This sounds excellent!

I'd say my current job is the best one, I work with a fantastic team, I'm responsible for a lot of very important elements in the company and seeing as I work in such a big firm it's nice to be able to make a difference. Most jobs I've stayed at a couple of years (although a lot were contracts) but I've been at the current place nearly 6 now and still enjoying it. It's also 1 mile from home which is handy when you have a baby and can nip home for lunch. Bearing in mind I had some great jobs in Munich it says a lot about where I work now.

Oh and lol@Third Opinion calling fatherhood a 'job'. I love taking time off to look after my son, it's certainly not a job it's a pleasure. It's a bit like me saying my best ever job is building my kit car.

Ride Operator/Attendant at Thorpe Park.

Pay was rubbish but there was no real responsibility, the weather was wonderful (iirc it was a record breaking summer), loads of great people to work with and loads of fun to be had.

Not as good as many i'm sure, but i loved it; best summer of my life, all i did was party and get laid. Shallow i know.

I used to work there too (1990:eek:).

My local pub used to be the Red Lion, did you go there?

I've only had two jobs - One was working on a till and the other is my current job as an Apprentice Electrical Engineer... I know which one I prefer :D

How do you do these Summer Jobs whilst having a full time job? Or do you not have a normal job?

I'm only asking as I'd love to go to another country for the summer and do something like that but currently I'm working full time as an Apprentice Engineer (Soon to be fully qualified however...)...

Working at Tesco's as a Checkout supervisor whilst i was at Uni. Half the staff in the evenings and saturday were young students, as all the grumpy women just did the day shifts mid week.

Running around all evening passed the time well, paid well for a student job (20 hours a week). Store clossed at 10, everyone over the pub, i would meet them at 10.30 after sorting out cash office, then into town two or three nights a week.

I had to offer 'special' one on one training to so many of the till girls, it almost seemed a right of passage. NUmber of times I went to work, pub, back to one of there houses, then back to work again was more than i can remember.

Good times.
