Asus rampage III Extreme

You could flash one of the BIOSes with the one Slackworth posted and keep the other BIOS as a back up.

I could, but I would rather wait until it is "offcial". That way, if something goes wrong with the board at least I can take it back saying I only installed the BIOSs' from the ASUS website. Also, there are 2, 5xx BIOSs, so in some respects it is still a BETA. I would rather wait until it is official from ASUS to the public.

I'm thinking of preordering one of these boards.

Does anyone know how big this queue is and when these boards are expected to be in good supply ? Trying to figure out if I should preorder with OcUK and wait or just keep trying other sites to see if stock turns up.

Thanks, done too..

Well my Rampage 3 just died. Good start, only had it a day . Does anyone know, VK perferably, if removing the heatsinks and applying your own paste voids the warranty because I will be taking this back Saturday?

Almost sure it will void warrenty, the question is will they check? any way whats up with it maybe just something silly you been through the motions? cmos reset etc....

It was running Prime95, with all stock settings - just to make sure everything works. I went and had a shower, came back and the computer was off. I thought ok that's strange. I checked my laptop which was hooked up to it via the ROG connect and it said S3 sleep mode. So I hit the keyboard and it powers back on fine. I closed everything and reset the motherboard and now everytime I switch it on it goes on for about 1 second then switches off. Sometimes 2 seconds. All it says on the ROG connect is "CPU Initial" then it cuts out.

EDIT: I have tried CMOS reset several times, swtiched BIOSs, taken it out of the case etc. Still isn't working.

I would have thought the warranty would be void but will anyone check. Why remove the heat sinks, were they loose or did you think you could make them more effective?

Thought I could make them more effective, the stuff on them is horrible, even VK said so himself. Ok, so now the board stays on if I hold down the button, but it still isn't booting

EDIT: Duh, it wasn't turning on because I hadn't put the RAM back in - helpful Voltage LEDs! Okay, so now it is powering on, however on ROG Connect it is saying "CMOS Error". Even after a CMOS clear. Maybe I'll try removing the battery. But for some reason I have to hold down the button to get it to turn on. If I simply click the power button it turns back off...

Nooo lol It crapped out with the CPU and RAM in. It was only after taking it out and taking it apart, putting it back together bit by bit ;). I for some reason thought the motherboard could still power on without the RAM but obviously not.

I tell you one thing though this watercooling setup works a dream. Didn't get above 52C on stock load when prime95'ing. I booted it up without any heatsink and within seconds it hit 70C idle in the BIOS .

i was planning on removing the heatsinks to apply some Artic silver 5 but since i live in dubai, this will be an issue if i fail so i guess ill just use it as it is :)
but artic silver has a 200hr cure time so i guess that sux :(

simulatorman how can u resist till the weekend :P gl :)

vortx post some nice pics am interested in seeing some watercooling setups :D

I just reaslied if you have a case with 7 pci slots you won't be able to do tri sli or tri fire on air on this board because the 3rd gpu will have to hang off the edge of the motherboard. Apparently the manual says for tri sli or tri fire you need to use red pci-e slot 1, 3 and 4, and it's using the 4th slot which requires the 8th pci-e slot.

I wonder why you can't use red slot pci-e slot 1, 2, and 3. I know bu using slot 2 you will block the short 4x slot intended for sound. I can only guess because slot 2 is intended to be used when you want to do 4 way in 8x8x8x8x mode. Still it seems strange. I'm beginning to think I'm better off holding onto my classified 759 now, as I can run tri fire or tri sli at 16x16x16x, and have a 1x slot on top for sound, or I can do tri sli with physx at 16x16x8x8x or if not using phyx use a full length soundcard and have the 3rd gpu hanging off the end of the board.

flanno have you manged to run ur 12 gb ram at its commercial speed on this board? although because you have 12gb youll prob need to settle for 1600mhz

can any1 verify how many sata 3 cables are included?

To be honest I'm not a huge overclocker. I'm running it at 1600mhz at CAS6 timings at present. I do plan to push my 980x to 4ghz soon and then we will see how fast the memory can go. As for that dominator airflow fan, I ditched it. At all speeds using a fan controller it was too noisy or weird sounding.

ah thats ok, am not either but i would like to run my 6gb 2000mhz at that speed with out OC the 980 to anything, really dunno much about it but if ur running 12gb at 1600 its good cause ive been doing a lot of research and it appear when you have more ram you must run at lower speed, as for the fan a few posts back pinto had it fixed up and there were no complains, maybe ur fan is defective..but if you do not plan to push ur ram and you've got good airflow in ur case it should be ok.. :)

wut about ur crucials ? working well with the marvell connectors software
