E46 - Enabling Autolock When Going Over 10mph

Does anyone know how to enable the autolock feature on an E46 BMW? I've read that holding the lock button and opening the door manually enables it, which has worked for some but not for me.
 
It's the key that is coded for this option and not the car - if somebody claims they can enable it on the car for you, all they'll do is enable it if you open the car with the key manually rather than using the remote.
 
To be honest auto lock ****es me off, not auto lock itself but the fact you have to pull the handle twice! grrr!
 
Take it to BMW and they'll do it for free! Go to the parts department.

I had it done and turned off the function that dropped the whole top when i unlocked it and restored it when i locked the car.

Do you mean it doesn't auto-unlock in the case of a crash?
I have auto-lock on my Octy vRS.
If I'm in an accident then they automatically unlock - so I don't get trapped inside the car.
Also once I stop and remove the key from the ignition all the doors unlock.

I absolutely love it, but also love to hate it whilst hating to love it and hating to hate it... :confused: I think it's bed time.

How very odd! I mean, why add the auto lock option if it also causes the user to manually unlock the doors?

I enabled this on my Cupra myself (with Vag Com) and it worked a treat. Locked when going over 10mph (I think it was 10 anyway) and unlocked when I stopped and pulled the key from the ignition.

It's one thing I do miss on my new Focus ST. Haven't even looked into if it's possible yet, but having to manualy lock the doors is gonna take some getting used to!
 
Can I just ask why you all love this feature? I've never had a car with it, but I don't see the point!
 
I'm not saying that it s that likely.
However I do know of one person who had his vRS car-jacked.
I also know somebody else who was sat at some traffic lights when out of nowhere somebody opened his door and smacked him in the face.

I consider it as protection for me and my passengers.
Nobody can easily get inside my car however in the case of an accident somebody could still get us out.
