Best NVIDIA card to buy at the moment?

re:

i have a 480 & i find it loud, my cpu is watercooled on a quad rad, the fans are on a fan controller as are my case fans. the 480 sticks out like a sore thumb as a consequence, ive managed to get it to 85C & climbing with the fan speed at 70% & climbing during a prolonged session of BFBC2, but i tend to game at a min of 1600x1200 with all the bells & whistles maxed out. for me, the 480 is the shreiking monster sat in the corner.

In all honesty I can hardly hear my GTX480... my temps are 35 to 45 idle and I was playing BFBC2 earlier for a couple of hours and my GPU temp was 76c
Basically the card is set as default.

have no idea why your appears different.
Mind you I do have 2 120mm fans blowing air directly on it;)
Cheers

What's the actual fan speed on the 480GTX, in RPM? You can check with GPU-z if you don't mind having a look for me :)

Hi there, I have just checked the GPU-z and its showing as 44% 1695 rpm............ what it is while gaming I`ll have to get back and edit this post a little later as I have no idea at the moment..

Just took a screenshot of the GPU-z idle settings...

And one here ingame for around 3/4 hour, the server was the arica harbour which is huge and it was a full server this time so temps have increased more.

Hey, that's great cheers. I'll have a proper look later when I get in. Thought it might be interesting to see an actual speed comparison for the fan rather than in %.

For comparisons sake, my 5870 at idle and after about 40 mins on the same map:

At idle, near enough silent.

Under load, fairly audible. Max I've seen it go to while gaming is 31%, about 2100RPM which I would consider quite loud, personally.

Not sure if anyones interested in an update, but I decided to splash out and buy the new 470.

This thing is freakin' awesome. Maxes out every game on ultra and I'm not exaggerating when I say it's whisper quiet. I was expecting it to be quite loud, but it's not at all. Compared to the 4890 it's as though it isn't even running.

Very pleased. Well worth the 300 quid :(

Glad you're enjoying the card :)
