What cars would you like to see?

Way out of budget, the cheapest manual one is 8k € :(. Perhaps in 4 years when I'm ( hopefully) not a student any more.
But will keep it in mind, I didn't know these came in manual. Lovely looking car.

a new NSX.

from work.

New S16 Silvia, following the same formula as all the old ones. Same chassis/sr20det engine with a new better looking body, 30hp more than the last one and a posher interior.

Won't happen though, at least Toyota are doing something with the FT86.

I'd also like a s16 but with a slightly longer chassis so the rear seats are a bit more usable though 250bhp would be enough as long as it wasn't heavier than the s15. Better rust proofing would be good too :)

Actually just a properly rust proofed s15 would be good enough.

otherwise I'd have bought something like an E38 7 series a while ago,

Yea whatever. I refuse to beleive the reason you drive around in an old 2 litre Volvo V40 is because you could easily run something like an E38 but are put off by the gearbox.

If you were sitting there in an MX5 or something where you could actually exploit the interest part of having a manual, I'd understand.

Haha, but yeah I want a big comfy car that is fast in a straight line and where I can use my right hand to change gears, otherwise I'd have bought something like an E38 7 series a while ago, I can afford one now, the automatic bit turns me off, it's soooo boring to drive without changing gears.

But you are in the absolute minatory. An E38 is quite simply not the type of car were a manual gearbox would be any sort of benefit. Irrational dislike of Automatics aside, I'm willing to bet that an automatic would better suit your usage profile, certainly given the fact that you currently drive a Volvo Estate...

In the past manufactures have offered a manual gearbox on more luxurious cars and they've usually sold horribly. The E32 7 Series was available with a 5 Speed, go see how many you can find for sale now :).

If you wanted something that was primarily "fast in a straight line" I don't understand why having a manual gearbox would be important? A good automatic gearbox will be able to kickdown just as fast, if not faster, than your average driver in a manual car.

Mx5's cost the same as a 7 series to buy but:
Mx5 doesn't offer ANYTHING I really really want. Doesn't have a load of toys, it's way too small, and in a straight line it's hardly fast ( 9.4 sec to 60 mph :, and don't tell me to get the 1.8 as they start from near double the price of a nice 7 series here, way too expensive). I want a manual so I can rag it when I want to, and have something to do with my right arm.

Finally, I'm crap at saving money, spending 300 or more per month on running a car ( that is excluding petrol) is no problem, saving up a couple of thousand is ( hell, even saving 1000 is a problem, If I have money spare I pretty much always spend it on rubbish). Yes I could get a loan but I don't want to.

What I care about in a car:
Comfort (toys, ride quality, size, etc).
Straight line speed.
Exterior looks.
Cheap.

What I don't care about:
Age.
Handling.
Eco nonsense.
Driver position.
Image.

I've also been put off bmw's because they DO go wrong if you get a cheap example, and don't regularly service it, that's not something for me. I like cars which can take abuse.
Regardless, my next car will probably be a 2.5 mondeo and only one with climate, cruise and heated seats.

You know my driving style, guess why I want a manual and a clutch to play with ?

Besides, are automatics really faster than changing gears manually in terms of acceleration ? I thought most automatics were heavier than the manual counterparts ?

No suspension, just a couple of track rods.

But seriously, there's been rumours for some time about a RWD floor in development, and even if there isn't, I'm sure they could make a Chrysler floor handle well enough, then plant a European quality car on top, then drop the Maser V8 in the front and call it a GTAAAAAAAAAAA!

The 159 chassis is 4WD-capable, in fact was there not a 159 V6 Q4 model which sported 4WD and was pretty excellent? I've not gone out and looked, but the "feel" of the interior and looking at the tunnel says to me they might be able to shoehorn a longitudinal engine in there as well for "purity".

If a 159 GTA came out with some form of crazy V8 madness up front and 4WD, that would be lustful. The 4WD cars on the 159 platform drive very, very well by all accounts, so with a stonker of an engine it would be heavenly and probably sell by the bucketload if they priced it sensibly!

You've missed the point (of Fox's Post and of a MX5 :p). If you had a MX5, MR2, etc it would go someway to showing us why you'd "need" a manual as much as you claim you do, I.E you enjoy driving hard and fast around country lanes and track days which are both the only environments where a good, modern automatic gearbox will be lacking when compared to a manual. The fact that you drive a Volvo Estate (and not even one of the few "interesting" Volvo estates) goes a long way to suggest that you probably don't go to track days, or enjoy the occasional hoon around country lanes or at the very least don't take it "serious" enough that a manual gearbox would be much of a benefit.

Masturbate?

Would your driving style suit a large executive vehicle? Probably not.

There indeed was (and maybe still is) a Q4 version with the 3.2V6. I'm not sure you'd get a longitudinal engine and AWD though, would love to see the Maser V8 in the 159. But it's still to heavy a platform to be a great car, maybe they should respect the A in GTA if they do one.

**** a duck that looks awesome. No doubt GM will decide an ecobox with a million batteries is better though :(

No doubt, it is awesome looking.

If it had to hit the dealers floors I would seriously consider buying 2-3 years later. Just awesome, why not make it! :(
