Lucky Brit Scoops Highest UK Lottery Win

I would buy a banger with a boot full of cash then drive it to Mercedes and part exchange it for something a little less bangery :p

that much for a single win is terrible they should have at least (minimum) of 5 winners or summin...terriblez!
Seriously why is it too much? The whole idea of the lottery is that the more people play it the bigger the prize is, sure I'd be more than happy with an average jackpot, hell I'd be more than happy with half a mil, but with that kind of money I'd be able to turn some of my pipe dreams into reality, and I'd make sure that I was able to do the same for some other people too.

its literally too much for one person why not split the prize up that way you get more millionaires and more happy people..I hate the idea of 1 winner for that much of a jackpot!

Would anyone here go public? I cant see why anyone would want to go public tbh, I certainly wouldn't. The only people I would tell are my family and friends.

It would be so great to rub it in the face of certain family members and people who have ****** me over in the past.

Never would go public only tell close family/freinds..I would help a little to family members and then donate some to charity also.. all depends on how big the win is!

If I heard correctly this morning while standing in line at the local co-op in my village, the winner bought the ticket from there and lives locally. I could have course have completely misheard what they were saying.

You hate the idea why? because it's not you winning it? how is it too much for one person? you've not given any reason for it other than you don't want one person winning that much money.

I would just like to check my balance statement at every opportunity to make myself feel warm and fuzzy.

It has to be a serious anti-depressant when you select 'check balance' on the hope in the wall and it reads:

£86,000000

I think I would just print off a statement and stare at it everyday until the novelty wore off.

I would then proceed to buy or build my own island and declare sovereignty.

Possible flame suit moment but....

It seems to me that it would be "better" if the jackpot was divided amongst more people, either by reworking the system or putting a lower cap on it (e.g. afaik they eventually split the pot between the people who get 5 numbers + 2 stars after it reaches a certain threshold).

£84m is more than anyone who has come from an average background could conceivably spend in a lifetime, would it not make more sense to alter the system somehow (I don't know how) so that - for example - 4 people would win over £20m (still an huge amount of money)?

Obviously I'm saying this from a position of not having won but it just seems kinda ludicrous to me that someone can go from nothing to £84m+ in the bank overnight.

On the flip side if there wasn't that chance at such a huge sum of money perhaps a lot of people wouldn't play in the first place?

you're definitely right in your last statement, that's how it spirals up, because more people play the bigger the prize. What does it matter to you if someone isn't going to spend it in their lifetime (not that anyone need struggle, as has been pointed out many times). Who are you to decide how much people should be able to win? What's the point of deciding there should be a limit? Whatever you may think, people will be able to spend as much money as they have, there is always something that you could blow all of it on.
