Uh-oh! Katla Volcano Just Rumbled

So your saying that because of this valcano nobody should book air travel?

I'm saying people should take into account the likelihood of disruption when deciding whether or fly or not. Whether you're personal opinion is of a high or low probability, and how bothered you would be by disruption is up to the individual. My personal opinion is that I won't be booking any flights for the foreseeable future.

Isn't the solution just to put a big glass dome over iceland? Why hasn't anyone thought of that yet.

He was a bit extreme but perhaps there is some sense. If you book somewhere which doesn't rely on air travel then your holiday will take place if it all kicks off.

The problem with insurance is that it only repays you the origianal cost of your holiday. Friends of mine had theirs cancelled with the last volcano and although they got a full refund of £1,600 when looked to book again for the following month it was going to cost £2,200 instead and they couldn;t afford the extra so they haven't bothered with a holiday this year (yet)

Also, all the holidays which don;t involve air travel would double or triple in price if it was known that the air space was going to be shut down for a few months.

But personally, I'd just risk it. If it's cancelled, then just spend time at home. If it still goes ahead, you'll have a great time.

 genius.

Bring on the passenger zeppelins. No harm if you lose an engine or two with them you just float around until you get towed to port.

Why don't they just make 100+ men helicopters that aren't effected by the ash? Logistics or something? :p

They'll still get their turbines clogged up. I'm not sure, but I think even regular propeller planes can be affected too, because it'll basically gunk up the engines. I'm possibly wrong about that though, I don't know much about aircraft. :p

So what do you reckon will happen if it does go.

I can see some food shortages as the lack of light will affect farming.

From what I can tell we'll die.

Although the last eruption was lesson on this index thing that Mt St Helens.
