From IGN:

Humor occurs in threes. So will it be just as funny this year if Square Enix CEO Yoichi Wada comes out on stage at Microsoft's E3 press conference, taps Don Mattrick (or whoever happens to be speaking) on the shoulder, and announces that yet another PlayStation 3 exclusive is coming to Xbox 360?

If Wada does appear at Microsoft's press conference, it's possible that he may be bringing Final Fantasy Versus XIII news with him. The chance of a multiplatform release for the Final Fantasy XIII sister project doesn't seem as remote today after some comments shared by Wada during the Q&A segment of an investors briefing in Japan yesterday.

As reported at Impress Watch, an attendee, noting that FFXIII's sales seemed to have benefitted from its multiplatform release, asked Wada if it would make sense to give Versus similar treatment. Replied Wada, "We'll be looking into it internally until right before the formal announcement."

This is a slightly more open stance than we've seen on Versus in the past. Following FFXIII's multiplatform switch, Versus trailers have displayed the text "For Playstation 3 Only Worldwide."

The "formal announcement" Wada speaks of could come at E3, although recent comments from director Tetsuya Nomura have indicated that this may not happen.

One thing's for certain, if you see Wada on stage at Microsoft's press briefing, you should definitely keep your eyes on the speakers' shoulders.

Oh, for the love of God...

I just hope VS XIII is a better game than XIII was, couldn't care less whether it's multiplatform.

Another agreement from me. I still have to summon (see what I did there ;)) the strength to play the second disc of this. Just hasn't caught me at all :(

Going to sound like a right Troll here...

But I really hope it doesn't, Imo XIII was cut short and wrecked to make it possible and cost effective on the 360's DVD's.

I dunno, i see where you're coming from. And if 360 release was always in the back of Squares mind it could have come into play.

But as far as I'm aware, The PS3 version was finished, done and dusted before moving it onto the 360 even began.

I think the only compromises were the lower quality movies and sound.

As for my on topic opinion, I'm with Robert. All games that arent direct from the console maker should be multiplatform anyway. So I'm not too fussed.

There was also the cut out content thing which may play into speculative minds about the whole gimped for Xbox 360 version etc.

Either way I won't be surprised if Versus does go multi-platform.

There were many rumours about cut content etc with it because of the 360 release. How true these were I couldn't tell you.. But they obviously struggled or they wouldn't of had to knock the gfx down.

I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if it went multi plat. In fact now rumours have started I'm kinda expecting it to. Enix have broken Squaresoft.

Enix have broken Squaresoft.

Now this i agree with. Square Enix are an abomination, a shocking cash-in founded upon the genius that was Squaresoft. They are a mere shadow of what their namesake once was.

[EDIT] Overly dramatic i know, but to put my feelings into perspective, keep in mind Final Fantasy X was developed by Squaresoft then look at Final Fantasy X-2... developed under Square-Enix.

I'm beginning to think we'll never see a truly epic Final Fantasy game again.

We won't, This FF online game will be pretty pants also.

Only saving grace with vs was it's the kingdom hearts team... Yeah it wouldn't be a ff game as we know them. But kingdom hearts is epic also.

Miss the good old days.

FFX was pretty terrible TBH so 'Squaresoft' were just as capable of making bad Final Fantasy games in my opinion. But I agree I doubt we'll ever see a truly epic Final Fantasy again. :(

They'd be silly not to go multi platform in this age, and I can't see Sony paying to keep this exclusive.

If XIII was already finished on the PS3... what would they possibly cut out for a 360 release? I mean it came on 3 discs so if it had to go on 4 I'm sure that wouldn't have mattered.

According to many sources about there was a huge amount of content cut out of FF13, many think it was down to the 360 deal, but it may be just artistic choice. Even though SE said they wouldnt start the 360 version before the PS3 version they showed the 360 version at E3 last year months before the PS3 version was done. As long as its a decent port and isnt cut down like FF13 could have been I dont see why there shouldnt be a 360 version.
Anyway just saw this today,
Don't read too much into the Square Enix CEO's comments from yesterday's press conference.

Square Enix CEO Yoichi Wada has provided some clarification on his statement from yesterday that seemed to suggest Final Fantasy Versus XIII was a possibility for Xbox 360. The clarification came, expectedly, through Wada's frequently updated Twitter.

Tweeted Wada early Wednesday (around 6:00AM): "It looks like the 'net is heating up. Versus on Xbox? What I said at the earnings press conference was just that until the launch time frame is formally announced, all points about all titles are not finalized."

So it looks like we probably shouldn't jump the gun on Final Fantasy Versus XIII being multiplatform. At least not until Don Mattrick gets a magic tap on the shoulder at E3 from Tetsuya Nomura.

Difference is; you're in the minority for thinking FFX was terrible, it's been very well received. I actually feel it was a better game than FFIX and possibly even on par with FFVIII.

X-2 however is generally agreed to be shocking.

I think you are wrong about this. XIV will attract a lot of people when it comes out. The alpha is going really well at the moment and they are listening to the feedback and changing things all the time.

XI was a success as far as SE are concerned. I believe it had around 500k subs at its peak which although doesn't come close to the success WoW has had isn't too bad for an 8 year old game.

game was finished on PS3 then quickly ported over to 360. check Digital Foundry's report on it to see where the 360 version was changed.
