*** The Official HTC Desire (Bravo) Thread! ***

Asked them via the Live Chat thing. Apparently it's because I'm being billed from the 8th May to the 12th June?

Also, the free line rental I was promised, he says there's no notes on the system to prove that.

I finally got my PAC no.
I need help deciding which network to move on to.

I'll be buying off MPD or mobiles.co.uk
I'd like the Desire to have as little as the network's own software/firmware.
No branding if possible.
Unlocked.
Basically a standard factory model, with HTC Sense of course.

I think it comes down to Vodafone, Orange and T-Mobile for me.

I hear T-Mobile offer the best internet options, but don't they lock and brand their phones?

They do if you buy directly from them...but bying from a 3rd party retailer you might not get a locked device....tbh the branding on the Tmobile Desire is hardly noticeable...other than the start up logo and the internet icon saying wnw...i dont see any other tmobile branded stuff...the phone itself isnt branded unless they are now.

Can anyone recommend a lock screen application that has a horizontal rather than a vertical 'swipe to unlock' mechanism please as my new nexus one style case unlocks the phone by the motion of removing the phone from the case when there is a call.

Many thanks

Single Orange logo on the back, re-branding of some icons, un-installable Orange apps etc. It's not the end of the world but I'll be flashing the phone once it's been completely rooted.

I don't think the O2 version has any physical branding, but it does come with a horrible 'O2 Theme' as default. It's changed in an instant however, so isn't much of a worry.

Does anyone know how t-mobile might know if you were using the desire as a modem (tethered), compared to using the internet on the phone. T-Mobile are saying that even though my old man has an unlimited data plan, it will cost more with it tethered. Phone is from them but I'm thinking of rooting it

Rooting it won't stop them finding out, if they're looking at all, I'm on T-Mob and have tethered a few times (Without going over the FUP) and haven't been charged for it

Surely there is no way they can tell - data is data. Your phone receives exactly the same data whether it displays it on its own screen or on your laptop.

Exactly what I thought. It's a business account. Clearly the sod on the other end if the phone was trying to get a little more out of my dad. Cheeky buggers! :p

So if he has an unlimited data plan, he won't get charged for tethering? It will be within FUP.

Nobody has true "unlimited" despite the fact that it'll be sold as that :( T-Mobile's fair usage policy is 3GB if you got it from them directly or 1GB otherwise. Hardly unlimited  But yes, so long as he stays within his FUP he shouldn't be charged :)

How is the branding on an Orange Desire?

Not all of the apps are uninstallable although I suspect that you actually mean that (i.e. you cannot uninstall them). I debranded mine to get rid of them, and hence free up some memory, and increase the possibility of being able to use a 2.2 firmware once HTC release one for the Desire.

Note that you can debrand by flashing the default Desire firmware without rooting; just need to create a goldcard.

Thanks for the reply guys. I've had my desire a while on o2. Convinced my dad to get one and use it tethered instead if using a separate mobile broadband dongle.

Didn't think there was a way of them knowing. But I was told that o2 charge iPhone customers if they want to tether. Obviously being exclusive to o2 at the time prob meant they had their way with Apple.

I know, my only reservation there is nowhere does it say what o2's FUP is. No-one, ever, in the course of human history has got a definitive answer on it :P
lol, they changed it from 200meg to *unlimited*, so I guess its just a case of pushing it till you get a slap round the chops. :D

I managed to download an album in WAV format I stored on a server one morning whilst at work. No slap on the wrist yet :D

Don't really intend on doing it again though of course! Just a case of "pushing my luck".
