North Korea supposedly torpedo South Korean Ship

Are US troops not in South Korea, in oart to deter NK aggression ?

Yes they are there to deter aggression, not to attack NK. Huge difference between just maintaining a presence to try to deter things than to actually go to war with someone.

Somehow I don't think they'd still be there if China decided to get involved, the US cannot commit to that.

Aren't SK and NK still technically at war with each other? If true it kinda makes a mockery of NKs threats to go to war if sanctioned....

Yep, there was a ceasefire declared at the end of the Korean war, but no peace treaty or armistice between the 2 countries has been signed.

I meant military. Like last time.

The 'US' aren't going to encroach anything.

ok... the US and South Koreans win the war against the north. Are you not saying that US isn't going to put a shed load of military bases to "keep the country stable " This means they will literally be right on the doorstep of china. And im guessing china would not be best pleased about that. Could you imagine the reaction in the states if china set up a base and placed 10's of thousands of troops in Cuba.

Have you actually been to ROK? There are like 25+ camps/bases already, with thousands of troops. They *ARE* on the doorstep. But doorstep is moot really, America could rattle China from DC.

But China has a lot to lose.

Except they are not because NK is in the way.

sanaxe1 is probably talking about bases being set up in NK, which is on China's doorstep.

They don't have to get involved with military force, both countries economies are so entwined they can cripple each other and invenitibly themselves if they get mixed up in this.

They arn't going to **** with each other of korea at worst they'll fund their side maybe ship some arms buts that's about it, they both want both side to just stfu and get along.

No. They wouldn't destroy their own ship killing 46 people just so that they could say "look we've found a bit of a North Korean torpedo on the ocean bed!"

I'm sure if they wanted to feign an incident to give them a reason to attack they could come up with something a lot better than that.

Of course they would. You need to get a clue about Black Ops. If the CIA is capable of assassinating it's own President, do you really think they are going to give a **** about slotting a boat load of zipperheads?

reuters covered this during election week. on the day it was confirmed a torpedo. wonder why its took this long for bbc and papers to cover ?

You do realise that if sk and nk go to war most of SKs capitol will be destroyed before they even get over the border?

The US nor the SK want a war.

agreed but surely SK dont want to live under threat of destruction for ever ? this is how wars start. NK will push them too far eventually

its like when the bully pushes the ginger kid too far and gets stabbed in the eye with a pencil.

Wasn't that my point...?
