thinking of upgrading my 9800gtx+ to something like a gtx260,will it be worth my while,ill sell the 9800gtx for say £50 and should pick a 260 up for arround an £100,

From memory a 9800GTX+ is just a rebadged 8800GTS 512mb.

I went from a 8800GT > 8800GTS > gtx 260 216SP and each upgrade was a noticable difference especially the last one.

Make sure you get a 216SP gtx 260 version.

So for £50 I'd say it was worth it.

ALso gtx 260's tend to only make £90 nowadays so it should only be £40 to swap.

He has a 9800GTX+ not a 9800GTX, the GTX+ was a die shrunk (55nm) version of the GTX and draws less power, it was renamed GTS250 when the 2xx series was released so the question is if going from a GTS250 to a GTX260 is worth £50 (I dont know)

@ harryohh nvidia his is personal choice, dont bring fanboy insults into it.

try and sell the 9800gtx+ as much as you can and find a cheapish second hand gtx260 (216sp). it will be a little improment for little cash.

That's fine if it is but he shouldn't be saying it's got better quality which is not true.All he has to say is he likes nvidia.

Its borderline if its a worthwhile move IMO as for £115 you could get a new HD5770.

MSI's new 5750 with voltage control if you are willing to pay gives a massive amount of performance for the price.

Very similar performance to a 5770.

Spending only around £100ish ain't gonna give your £100 worth of performance boost over the 9800GTX+. The bare minimum that is considered a worthwhile upgrade from 9800GTX+ would be 5830 or 5850.

I got a 9800GTX+ myself, and I can tell you that upgrading now with just around £100 budget ain't gonna get you anywhere...you'd pretty much be only side-stepping with just one or two tiny steps up. Make do with the 9800GTX+ and save up more money, and upgrading when the 2nd gen dx11 cards are out would make more sense.

Yea...but for £100, wouldn't he be better off with a 4890 instead of GTX260? :p

Personal choice. Technically the 4890 is faster but some people prefer Nvidia, some ATI.

Personally I loved my gtx 260 and kept it until the 5850 came out and couldn't resist a new toy.

Personally, I would stick with what you got, and save up for a card, that will really give you a nice bump in performance.

Something like a 5830/5850 or a gtx 465 when its released.

Additionally save the money for a dx11 card. There isnt too much value in buying old technology which may perform well, but doesnt have support for the latest technology.

For instance your change your card from a 9800 to a 260, but then when a dx11 game come out that you want to play and enjoy, your find that having no dx11 support, will be a problem, and then your start thinking about upgrading again.

Thats just my personal preference.

yea ive been looking at benchmarks and the gtx260 only gets a few more frames arround 5fps more than my 9800gtx+,
so im going to wait for either an gtx 450 or 460,

its just that when i run spinter cell conviction i get rubbish performance,

Paid £100 for a 196? core GTX 260 - B Grade - a few months back, love it, well worth paying half that!!! ;)

got a palit gtx260,of fleabay for £87,sold my 9800gtx+ to gex,for £55 so it only cost me £32 ,and it feels a lot faster in games,

9800gtx = 8800gts 512 on a longer 2x6pin pcb

9800gtx+ = 9800gtx on a 55nm shrink with excellent overclocks

gts250 = 9800gtx+ without the decent overclocks

9800gtx+ is an awesome card. Which one have you got? Is it the BFG one with 760mhz on the gpu clocks?
