I've just had a life changing experience.

I had an interesting experience earlier this year. I ended up going to the hospital after feeling complete light headed with pains around my left heart area and numbing of the left arm and hand.

Simply put it turns out that I have several things that made it feel like that: the pains I get every so often are mechanical rib injuries from snowboarding (I fell at top speed onto ice and elbowed myself in the ribs exactly where my heart is).

I had a trapped nerve in my neck that caused the numbness in the hand (if it's the first three fingers only then it's nerves supposedly).

I get low blood pressure if I've not been eating well, not drinking enough water or doing enough exercise. I'm not diabetic although my mum is late onset so that is always at the back of my mind.

I've been extremely fit in the past (london to bright bike ride, kick boxing etc) but recently due to many injuries (falling down stairs and getting stitches etc) my fitness has taken a dive. I'm slowly addressing that - I abhor lack of fitness and always have.

Excellent.
We do have Roy Dearnley who comes in and usually does the ABC's etc.
I don't use MSN but always answer my email at both work and home.
NHS Summer School is now fully booked with guests but we have more student classes coming up later in the year.

Hate to be a bit thick bit whats your gmail address?
Just noticed you're 19 which is perfect to get over to 14-19 year olds.

I recently had some serious worries and concerns about chest pains and palpitations. After going to the out of hours GP having my blood pressure taken and heart listened too i was told there was nothing wrong with my heart. I went to my GP after 2 weeks of stressing out about this and he decided to put me on Citalopram. Turns out I was suffering from an anxiety disorder. Some sort of seritonin dissorder was causing me to feel all anxious, have panic attacks and get pains and shortness of breath. Its been 4 weeks since i started the Citalopram and i have never felt better.

Im 24.

ZOMG this is probably the case with me. Feel really anxious all the time and the first attack i had was after watching a horror film. I'm also 24 .

I'm going to get to the docs on monday and try and get this sorted as its really affecting my life.

I recommend it mate, the pills dont change you mentally, they just seem to take the edge off allowing you to cope with the rest of the problems. Good Luck!

Understanding this is a 2 year old thread, I have been having similar problems for 13 years of my life I am 25.

Symptoms are an immediate and often dibilitating sharp pain in what one would assume to be the location of the heart, it will occurs randomly be it trying to sleep, eating, walking, excersice, sitting in class reading a book, anything. Nothing I've been able to determine in all this time starts it.

During this "attack" breathing becomes hard as breathing in increases the pain, short breaths have to be taken and each consecutive attempt at a larger inward breath increases the pain, but eventually to the point of normal lung inflation and the pain then dissipates.

I have attempted to get doctors to have a look but in 13 years of trying they don't seem to give a ****. In my younger years from what I can remember it consisted of short visists, brief checks with a stethoscope and being told it's probably in my head.

Later on in life as a late teen, I was told to try adjust my diet (without knowing what I actually ate, just simply telling me to change) I was then, like another poster in this thread given citalopram which did not help. (Note: I was also given this at a later unrelated date for depression, again it did not help).
In my most recent years it has become apparent my local GPs think I am either making it up or worrying over nothing.

Having problems in other areas and still not getting help, I decided to see a chiropractor for some back pains and mentioned this problem, by random chance said chiropractor herself also suffered from similar problems to which she pointed towards possible problems with my pericardium.

Having been told of what she had and what the Pericardium does, there's a section of fluid between each layer and that at times there could be in essence " a dry " spot where the pain could be coming from, the breathing causing more pain but the eventual refilling of said section of fluid and pain relief.

I took this to my doctor to see if he could do anything to check but was met with "it's doubtful", I refused to pay for a doctors appointment told him he was being completely useless and a waste of time and money.

So I've given up trying, I've never met anyone else or heard of anyone else in passing that has this problem, I see people getting help for all sorts of problems in real life, on the internet, tv shows etc but when it comes to something that has given me problems for half of my life it really honestly ****** me off.

It seems the doctors I've been seeing don't care much past a simple visual inspection and a 5 second stethoscopic examination.

This in attitude is endemic in public sector unfortunately. Lazy, apathetic and they've just given up on life.

I think GPs need to be paid on correct diagnosis rather than how many patients that they can see..

would suggest he is private already (I don't know if they have NHS GPs on C.I.?). Doesn't hurt to get a second opinion though, try changing doctor.

ps. Please refrain from offering medical advice

I get this every now and then.

Just get on with it because it's never happened enough to warrent going to the doctors.

Plus it happens randomly.

I wouldn't take drastic changes as to completely erase certain foods from your diet, just eat them in moderation.

So westy, 2 years on, have you changed your life forever? Be honest

I have to say yes. Although the whole Gym thing didn't happen till this year... I'm now 2 stone lighter inside 3 months and feeling a hell of a lot better for it :)

Tried a few doctors guess it wouldn't hurt to try a few more.
By the way, did I actually offer any medical advice or did I just explain what happened to me?
