EBC RedStuff pads - Opinions please!

I've used both red and yellow. As mentioned earlier, the Reds needed warming up to work well. I found the yellows to work much better from cold, and never managed to overheat either. Guess it depends upon the weight of your car, how you intend to drive it and also the cooling getting to the disks.

DS2500s are excellent for fast road and occasional track use. You need to follow the Ferodo bedding in process to make them work properly though; you have to get them literally smoking.

I always remember properly bedding in my new ultimax discs and redstuff pads on my 350z......did it at 3am, went past some chavs who thought I must have been a drunk driver with all the braking. I got the brakes smoking and boy did it look weird! They had the blue tint to them as well, nice and shiny....the smell however, was a rather acquired taste.

We've moved from Red's to Yellow's on the track 400bhp Cosworth, reds re great and probably ideal for youe job, but if you can stretch that bit extra get yellows.

it depends what they are fitted too, Max Power used to rave about them because they work very well on 1.4 Saxos, however on my Prelude Vtec they are only rated by the manufacturer as OEM replacement with yellow stuff being upgrade quality

if you check out www.brakes4u.co.uk and put your vehicle info in it will tell you what EBC consider to be your OEM/Upgrade pads

I've got a set of Yellows sat here waiting to go on the Clio, hoping they'll be decent.

Have heard the Reds don't have as much bite from cold and like to chew discs, seems to be what others in the thread are saying as well.

Sorry to bring an old thread back up but I need some advice. Apparently I need new rear discs on the MK5 Golf GTi (remapped ~250bhp) and I have no idea what pads/discs to fit to it. I have had it from new and the discs/pads at front still have about 40% life left in them and the rears have only just given up now after 57k miles.

I use the car for 'fast road use' obviously and have taken it to Mallory Park around the track for a few hours in the past (although I doubt it will be seeing much track action again!). I do drive quite a lot on A-roads and motorways so cold performance is quite important to me. I am thinking of going with the yellowstuff pads (only because DS2500 seem very expensive -double the price!) but what discs to marry them with? Seems OE discs will be too 'soft' for them? Shall I go for EBC discs - ultimax or 3GD? Any ideas please.

If it's just the rears I'd probably stick with standard stuff unless you really want to change, it won't make much difference though. The front is where you'll really notice using uprated stuff.

Thanks yeah I've been reading up since then and it does seem like there is little point in upgrading the rear stuff. However just called VW and they have quoted me £40.15 per disc and £41.40 for a full set of pads. Checked eurocarparts and they dont seem to stock oe discs/pads for a GTi. Hmm what to do!

312 mm conversion ? :D got them on my cupra jesus they stop hardunless driven hard and constantly prodded then they fade like hell , i need some new pads too i think :D

286mm on the back of the GTi, 312mm on the fronts. How easy is it to stick 312mm on the back? I take it you are using stock discs and pads at the moment?

If you do drive hard and overheat the fronts, the rears start doing more work. It's worth having upgraded rear pads on the back in this scenario.

Problem is if I get a new set of discs from VW and stick yellowstuff pads on apparently the pads can warp the discs and essentially severely limit their life because the pad is too hard for them. Is that the case? If so what discs should I go for? As the VW prices are pretty much how much I will pay for uprated discs/pads anyway.

Who told you this?

Discs are discs. I have and always will buy the cheapest discs I can from my local motor factors and a good set of pads. Don't bother with 'OEM' brake discs imo.

I agree, its a lump of metal, one cant be much different from the other!
