Q9550 worth £160? ([email protected] > Q9550)

Im planning on overclocking my q9550 to 3.2 on wednesday once my H50 is delivered. My mobo is the GA-X48-DS5 and i have Corsair Dominator 1066mhz 2GB ram(2x1gb sticks) and Corsair Dominator 1066mhz 4GB ram(2x2gb sticks). If someone could possible reccomend me some settings to try out that would be awesome. First overclock btw.

Just tried 4.0 @ 1.35VCore, RAM set to Auto with 2.1Volts. looks like it's getting too toasty.

Speccs are;
Asus P5Q Pro
Intel Q9550
Corsair H50-1
Corsair Dominator 4GB (2x2GB) DDR2 PC2-8500C5
Gainward GTX 260
Antec Basiq Plus 550W Modular
Lankool K62

Yep it's on 1:1 divider. The funny thing is, I just set the divider on auto and input the ram's spec manually. If you enter 400 divider, it would'nt boot.

I just got a Q9550 form a forum member here it runs great :)

But I think my GA P35-DS4 is reading the temps of the CPU wrong.

Idel is 34\32\35\34 @ [email protected] I am using a True 120 EXT with the 2p mod.
I tried Prime95 for 30 mins using small FFTs and the temps went up to 39\40\40\35 (I think one core is stuck)
So then I tried Intel burntest and got 40\40\40\36 no way is the True120 keeping it that cool.
Coretemp\Realtemp\Hardware monitor all said the same temps!

I have the latest bios. Is there any other soft I can try?
Thanks.
PS I have not tried overclocking it just in case the temps are wrong which I think they are.

Can you post a CPUZ and Core Temo or Real Temp scrennie? For stock settings, your idle temp is on the high side. Try doing a 5 runs of either IBT ot LinX and see what temps you get.

currently running prime with my q9550 at 3.2ghz from 1.2v. current temps are 56,55,52,54 (highest). should i run the torture test before upping it to 3.4?

I will try IBT and LinX in a bit.

I hope the pic is ok?

And with LinX

It's only been running for a day or two and I think that AS5 takes a bit before the temps come down
I thought the temps was low lol

EDIT= I am now at [email protected] and my temps was 45\42\46\46 Doing Linx 6 times but my idle was the same!

Looking good man. Looks like it's gonna get better once the AS5 settle down. Me, I settled on 3.825OC as the voltage/Heat increase on the 4.0 OC cannot justify the performance difference which is only noticeable when doing benches but not when doing normal daily task.

Thanks :)

I think my P35-DS4 does not show the idle temps correctly. I am emailing GA now and see what they say.

Have you sorted out your temp readings yet?

Nope :(
Gigabyte are giving me the run around. I know the idle temps are wrong by as much as 10-12C.
I sent them a pic of my CPU temp at 19c but the 4 cores was between 32-35c which is not right.
With a CPU temp of 19c the cores should be about 22-25C.

Full load my temps are ok about 43C I am hoping for a bios update from them next week.

Thanks for asking dude ;)
