F1 2010 - 3rd dev video on weather now live

Mods on an official game are probably going to be restricted anyway, some people may figure it out, but I wouldn't want any mods tbh, there are better games for sim racing by the looks of it, this has to appeal to the mass market, otherwise they couldn't afford to develop it. I'm fully expecting GRID with F1 cars, and hopefully a lot more on top of that, but not sim handling. If it plays well with my wheel I'm happy, if I wanted real sim I'd do iracing or similar. Don't get me wrong, the handling needs to be more realistic than GRID to appeal to even the casual gamer, so I think it should be a decent balanced title. Things like stopping in your pit box, career mode, weather effects etc all look great, I'm definitely looking forward to it a lot.

I'd also say from that vid that they do often give generous scores, even saying the handling of DiRT 2 wasn't entirely arcade (blatant lie!) is a giveaway, though I think codies weren't prepared for the wheel at all, the handling from it looked pretty bad, so I'm guessing a 360 pad should have been the weapon of choice there. I'd like to hear the thoughts of some other people who've played it with the pad as I think that would be more representative.

Geoff Crammonds is still the best F1 game I ever played, one of the very few F1 games I ever played which had realistic damage and the ability to drive full length races through a season. Used to love sitting down for a few hours to do a 60+ lap race and have to take into account my pitstops, other teams pitstops and changing weather/track conditions.

Would like this to be good, but I suspect its still going to be too arcadey for my liking. Come on Geoff, come back out of retirement !

you speak sense! the time wasted on gp2! keep thinking of installing a virtual machines as gp4 wont work in win7. Still play gpl a lot, nothing has passed this for me.

i do hope they dont use an absurd menu system like the dirt 2, really annoying.

i doubt it will be the game most of us sim players want though, no modding apprantly, which is pretty important in a sim game, as they only come aloung once in a while.

Most players dont want that level of accuracy or control though, the more casual car game market is far bigger than the sim market.

I want a f1 game i can play a 10% length race in, with pit stops, and for the race to be realistic and reflect a 60 lap race over 6 laps.

I was delighted when it was codemasters that got the licence, there really hasnt been a fun F1 game since the first one on the playstation.

You're correct that most players dont want that level of accuracy. However I see no reason why a title cannot cater to both groups of players. Surely a package which can be played in "arcade" style AND "sim" style has got to be better than just one.

Geoff Crammond did exactly that with his titles, you could play in a realism/sim mode with realistic weather, realistic damage, full length races etc etc...but you could also play it in arcade mode for 10% race length or however many you wished to define.

Offer both possibilities and you inherently appeal to a larger market than either individually.

GC Grand Prix was the best ever. The hours spent with my 3 mates doing a full grand prix every weekend including practice, qualifying and full length races with no assists.

We would practice the next course all week, tweaking our cars to the best of our abilities.

Then go round to whoever's house that weekend, set up our cars and then take it in turns driving (i think 15 or 20 minutes each between swaps) so we had two or three goes at driving our car.

The most gutting thing though was to get your car slowly up the order and then to find when computer controlled you had slipped down 10 places though :(

I can even remember some of our race names "Carlos Fandango" "Menzies Longoater" and "Fernando Gonzales" :) I have just realised that this is 16, 17 years ago!

Nowadays with multiplayer and broadband we could all play at once though although I am not too sure I would manage a full race. The concentration needed to drive 20 minutes at a time was enough!

We did a 3 or 4 full seasons and even bought a trophy for the winner (not me :()

Those were fun days and I miss a really good f1 simulator with modern graphics.
