*** The Official HTC Desire (Bravo) Thread! ***

I'm at the 15 Month (out of 18) contract upgrade point (due tomorrow), So i went into Phones4U today to see what they can offer, he came up with a deal consisting of:- 600 mins, unlimited texts/internet/gps/orange maps/50 photo messages, for £35 p/m and that's if I trade in my Nokia 5800XM I think.

Any suggestions, seems steep : /

Doesn't sound very good tbh.

I have the same problem, I though I was weird. I get on much better with the portait keyboard (not what I expected), and pressing full stop instead of space with my right thumb (on landscape) drives me bonkers.

Have you tried Swype, ThickButtons, or any other alternative keyboard?

It's on the portrait I find myself pressing the . like I said I'm training myself to not do it quite well. I haven't tried any alternative inputs yet as I get along with this so well. Swype looks good but I'll wait till official release before trying it out I think.

Can anyone recomend me a good dock for the desire?

As this phone gobbles up battery power its plugged in every night and the usb cable is annoying me on my cramped desk.

Its been pinched off the Nexus and is available for download as an .apk somewhere on XDA I think :)

Anyone have the standard APK for this as I dont have an XDA account and CBA'd making one :p

p.s. its the standard Navipanel that opens Google Maps and not that Brut thingy...

Edit: Just realised, I mean the Navipanel (HTC one) and not the black arch a 'la Nexus

Anyone any ideas on how I can get the contract mentioned earlier cheaper, or even so I don't have to bundle in my old phone?

This might be useful to some people:

My Desire on T Mobile was going to answer machine very quickly (10 seconds???). Previously I've had to phone up the network to change this but on the Desire you can configure it yourself up to 30 seconds by going to:

Home, Menu, Settings, call, call forwarding, unanswerd. You can change the voicemail numner (dangerous!) and the time.

So, you can use that to effectively turn your Desire into a Nexus One, is there an easier way?

The slicker way to do it is to use Modaco's Cyanogen 5.0.x port (I think its 5.0.6, seeing as .7 was only released last night) do that without fiddling with the kitchen options and you should find a notable performance increase over Sense and "Stock" 2.1 :)

MPD only do it on T-Mobile and Vodafone (I'm with Orange) And I cant really see any good 18month contracts on mobiles.co.uk

Unless I'm missing something of course

(Had a google but there's no end of different sites and roms about, want to make sure I'm looking at the right one :p)

It's here but its only the first release, so I would probably avoid it for now :( I'd have assumed he'd have moved the game on a bit since I saw that he'd released it :( He is, however, promising to come back to when he has time :) (By the sounds of things he's currently bricking X10's )

As a result you may be better off doing it the way you suggested originally, sorry about that :p

No worries. I'm quite happy to wait until he's got Froyo sorted for the Desire and then I'll shove that on there :p

But just to confirm (incase the 2.2 is delayed and I get bored), you can use this to effectively get the same software running as the N1 just about?

Try Dialaphone. Just search the many contract re-sellers. They're probably all going to beat the offer you were given.

Can you not switch networks? Orange have a 500mb hard cap on their dolphin plans and 750mb FUP on their panther. T-Mobile offer 3gb FUB as standard on Android phones, providing you ring them up and let them know you have an Android phone.
