Since when was the NSL 35mph?

It seems plenty of people can only drive at 40 mph regardless of the posted speed limit, neighbourhood or conditions.

I do take delight in seeing their frustration when I slow them down to 30 in a built up area.

A friend of mine updated her Facebook status the other day to pronounce that finally after 2 years of driving she had finally gone onto her first motorway. All her lady friends were commenting saying "Well done", "That's great" and "I'm still too scared"

I drove to wales on the M4 the day I passed to see a freind, really didn't see the big fuss or why people are so scared. It's pretty much the same as a dual carriageway.
My mum has never driven on the motorway, I quite like it though, keep an eye out for speed cameras/ vans and see how quick you can get there (not that I would engage in speeding, for legal reasons).

My drive home consists of 90% straight NSL roads, with 1 quite big hill in the way. Always have to follow somebody doing 40 or 50 and to be honest it makes me more aggressive to the point that I will try tight overtakes.

Young chappy in a 59 silver fiesta got me riled up a few days back when he stuck at 35-40 for about 2 miles I found a safe overtake and got past; he boots it and sticks to my bumper so I edge away again. He then glued himself to my car just before a recently resurfaced (gravelled) road, I just moved my car into the middle and all I could hear was ping ping ping of the stones bouncing off of his car- he backed off then. Not responsible of me I know but sometimes needs must.

Needlessly slow drivers are as bad as middle lane hoggers. They always get a flash from behind before a swift overtake and a cut across back into the left hand lane to try and prove a point. Never seems to work - I think the problem is that they're so oblivious to what's going on around them that they don't even notice my flashing and overtaking.

You could try the horn maybe?;)

Just a quick question that's slightly related. Why is the NSL sign the way it is rather than just a 60 in a red circle?

I noticed a 60 in a red circle on the somewhere on the A21 last week (I'm fairly sure it was single carriageway). Never seen one before, strange.

I'm always reluctant to overtake a line of traffic from the middle or the back having had what you describe happen to me a couple of times.
If I'm on the bike I move right over to the right of the right lane and shove my lights on main just to be sure.

I've noticed that unmarked fed cars do the lights trick as well. I try to remember as well, as I've had the same thing happen to me: starting from the back of the queue and then get number two in the queue decide after five seconds that now would be a good time to pull out. Except with a line of seven cars, I was going a tad faster than 70.

I wonder how many accidents are caused by people being overcome with rage from people doing silly slow speeds in front and doing reckless overtakes.

I nearly saw two yesterday.

I saw a really dumb overtake last week on a NSL road. We were both following someone doing 30-40mph for a few miles (hedges either side so no chance of overtaking) and the **** in front overtook the person way too late for the opportunity and almost had a head on. It was left way too late and could have been really nasty. Luckily the driver coming the other way saw it and slowed right down.

I get really confused when drivers are massively slower than the speed limit. I find it really common when taking the A13 out of London at 2/3am that people will do 40-70 between speed cameras in the 30-40mph sections. Then when it hits 50 and then 70, there will be a string of cars in all lanes doing 40mph  I think i overtook about 50 cars like this and I was doing 70.

Really freaks me out for a while as I have to look to make sure I haven't missed a new speed limit!

People are hyper paranoid about speed cameras. It's rather annoying.

Is that section on the A21 between Lamberhurst and Flimwell by any chance?
I noticed that just a few days ago when I was travelling to the coast in the glorious weather. :) It is single carriageway that section of road.

That's it. It's possibly got something to do with recently converting it to single carriageway from dual? (My mate was saying something about it but unsure if he was speaking any truth)

This has to be an organised group of people based all over the country, their pure aim in life is to go out in the middle of rush hour and attempt to slow everyone down.

I think it might have been a dual carriageway a couple of years ago but for some reason they changed it to a single, I have no idea why though.
It seems a bit of a waste as their is plenty of room for another lane on most of that road. I was stuck in traffic on that road for 20 minutes on Friday trying to get to Rye.
When I eventually got to Flimwell and took the A268 I got stuck behind a Merc doing 35mph in a NSL.
It wasn't you was it? ;)

I had this today, 2 lane NSL, driver in front doing 25-30.

I move over to the right lane on a straight to pass, using indicators to show my intention. Car in front moves over too to straddle BOTH lanes now at 25-30mph. I flash my lights to indicate my presence and it just sits there straddling the lanes.

Totally ridiculous.
