I'm thinking of buying a new scirocco, am I crazy?

a 1.4 at 200bhp keep dreaming!

My 1.4 made 180bhp recently at the rolling road day, this is with a very small turbo only. It had a conservative remap done and at one point when the map was being developed live on the car it was running 194bhp.

I also had a go with a G-Tech today and with my very first run managed 7.14sec to 62mph (I can get it quicker, just wasn't happy with the road conditions being 4.30 in the afternoon!), this is with barely legal cheap crap tyres and a known brake issue in a car that weights more than a Focus.

Not bad for just a 1.4

If you was my Brother I'd rather you told me I had 16k to spend on a Motor, Then I would pick one myself & invite you along for the test drive & pick up.
On the other hand if you turned up & gave me a Brand new Scirroco without the wait or the choice I'd still think you was the best Bro in the World.

Can't comment on that except, to say that my car's had zero problems since day one. As long as the turbo lasts five years, I'll be happy.

Got any links to reliability stats, as I'm a member on several VW forums and I haven't seen any '1.4 TSi engine failed' threads?

"However, new VW head Martin Winterkorn was not pleased with the Golf VI’s design and rescheduled the 2008 Geneva Show premiere of the car. He is said to have ordered a complete redesign. The latest addition to Golf’s long lineage seems due for launch sometime in the later months of 2008. According to Hackenburg, the new Golf will utilize an updated version of Audi’s current 160Hp 1.8 Litre Turbocharged FSI mill, most likely with a GT badge, as word suggests that VW plans halting the production of the 170Hp 1.4TSI motor due to reliability problems. The Golf VI GTI is likely to use an upgraded version of the current 2.0 TFSI motor. An SUV variant of the Golf is rumoured to be planned for introduction in the new lineup."

Car magazines Golf GT blew its turbo 500 miles from the showroom too.

Engines are known to literally go bang at 20k miles.

You really are something else. The article you quote was written before the Mk VI was even released :D. As for Car Magazine's Golf MkVI GT, I can find no reference to that...perhaps a link?

The second post in your own link says it all:

"Is the 1.4 tsi in the scirocco and mk6 not 160bhp now and lower emissions? Its a revised version. This looks like a very very old article."

I'm not saying that what you're claiming about the latest incarnation of the TSi's reliability definitely isn't true (though let's me honest, your current efforts don't fill me with confidence), just that I haven't seen any evidence for it.

Not to mention he said "VW owning peers", surely it would be all over the forums with owners moaning if what he said were true.

How do you know these VW owners if not online twoblacklines? Are you in a local VW owners club or something?

The spec looks excellent. I don't think I'd really add anything to that but I'd consider dropping the Xenons unless he does a lot of driving down unlit country lanes. The standard lights are fine. Have you considered the DSG box? It's luuuvly :)

Xenons come as part of a pack so it does not save me any money to drop it, DSG costs too much.

I just bought one, if you have questions feel free to ask.

its it worth paying for the upgraded sound system and the rear view camera?

I'm old, so my opinion will have little sway wiv d yoof but I think the 5 door Golf GTi is where you should look. Fatastic all rounder and buy nearly new to get the right deal and all the spec. I am not a fan of the wide arse skee rock o, Golf is much more practical but then I am not trying to look cool or pull d birds in it.

LOL :D

I managed to get my self a 12% discount (a friend of a friend owns a VW dealer)

so here is what we have got it down to

White
Leather seats
Heated seats
Electric Memory seats
Keyless go / entry
2 zone AC.
18" Alloys with TPM
Dynaudio Excite sound system
Onboard computer Plus
Parking Sensors
Bluetooth phone Prep
Multi Function steering wheel

Total cost will be a amazing 16k!!! I am told I should get 13 or or 14k back for it in 3 years.

They've always been an option unless you're ordering an R. If you're after the winterpack bits you should be able to get them without the lights.

Just for info, you can't get a rear view camera for the scirocco. Or keyless entry or keyless go. People who have the Dynaudio seem to like it. I think the standard system is pretty good though tbh.

They have the keyless entry and go here, its around 300 pounds and the rear view camera is about 200.

The lights are really free if you take the leather and 18" alloys.

If that pans out correctly then why not, 2k depreciation over 3 years on a brand new 0 mile car is nothing really. Are you 100% sure thats what you will get for it ?

I cannot imagine you losing only £2k on it over 3 years. Why would this be the case - if the difference in cost between a 3 year old one and a brand new one was only £2k the market would collapse for 3 year old ones and suddenly the difference would be a lot bigger again!

Ah i was forgetting the mid year model changes. They come in on cars built next week and yes indeed, cameras and keyless stuff have been added on week22 builds.
