Supermarket fuel price war

Is there any reason V-Power has gone up disproportionately to normal fuel? It's gone up 10p a litre since January, and has changed from ~4p higher than normal to ~7p higher than normal.

:(.

It's always been 7ppl more than regular unleaded?

When I first started fueling V-Power it was 117.9 when 95 was 113.9. When the first price jump happened I remember it being 124.9 when petrol was 119.9, but now its gone to 127.9. Pretty sure anyway! Tesco 99 tends to be somewhere in between aswell.

I've never seen it like that - everywhere I have ever filled up at Shell Optimax was 6ppl more than regular and when V-Power came in they increased the difference to 7ppl.

So far as I recall V Power has always been about 6p/l more which is ok with me ...although I don't use it because it gives me uber amazing performance of doom though, I just like the fact that it's better quality and has some good cleaning additives.

I feel more torques y0 when i use vpower diesel. Not more performance per say, but the car seems more eager midrange wise.

Unfortunatly I never find myself near a 24/7 shell when i need fuel.

Texaco on the other hand the car runs very poorly every time i fuel up there.

What if we did a blind test where you didn't know whether V-power had been put in. Bet you couldn't tell a difference then.

The mind is wonderful at making us believe things are true and possible!

I'm actually putting in a full tank today - the cheapest super unleaded near me is Tesco for 125.9ppl

Should I definitely be using SU for a 2001 e46 330i bmw?

I could if you used texaco fuel! I actually get more lag and flatspots :(

there were 2 shell garages near where i used to live, one always used to have Vpower at +4p and diesel 3p cheaper than the other garage, the other at +7p and diesel 3p more than the other. Bizarre

Are they not run as franchises which are allowed to set their own prices?

Not really. I doubt it's mapped for 97-99...

I use it religously in mine and can honestly not notice a single bit of difference. I use it because i had a load of sensors fail (read £800 bill) and MRC thought it could be because the map is for 98+ and i was using a mix of normal and super depending on if I could get it. Not turned back sicne and it's all running ok and has been for over a year now...

I noticed tescos over here had dropped from 121.9 to 119.9 the other day, hopefully they hop on the bandwagon.

I'm reading loads of conflicting thoughts on this. Some people say the 330i ecu's knock sensor adjusts to the ron used and even the manual says the engine is built for 98 ron so I don't know

Other people say there is negligible performance increase but the added detergents used are better for the engine.
