Samsung SpinPoint F3 1TB for windows 7 and applications and a Samsung SpinPoint F3 EcoGreen 2TB for storage.

Samsung SpinPoint M7 640GB 5400RPM for a Dell Vostro 1500 laptop.

Looks right but thought I'd double check :)

Nice choices for the desktop. I ran that same setup a few months back and it was smooth, the F3 is a really great OS disk in my experience.

I can't vouch for the laptop drive however. I recently replaced my old sony vaios 160GB 4200rpm hdd with a Hitachi Travelstar 500GB 7200rpm drive....the drive is amazingly quiet and runs very cool. It made my laptop feel so much faster.

i can vouch for the F3's, can't say anything bad about them, fast, quiet, reliable and comes with the famous boot up sound!
Although i never understood the point in Eco drives:p

One thing I always say..

When buying a hard drive, always buy a second one, to use as a backup for the first.

If you have backups in place, then ignore me :)

2tb is a lot of data to lose

It's a 2TB drive for a fair price, and performance isn't a big concern.

I'm with you on this one. I got the WD Green 2TB drive a few weeks ago, you don't need super fast drives for photos and movies. Don't need the heat or the noise that go hand in hand with fast drives.

Sensible.

I bought four F1 drives 18 months ago, 3/4 are throwing lots of smart errors and I'm expecting the forth to do so shortly. Doubtless a bad batch, but it's put me right off them.

I have a .5 and .3 TB drives for important backups. Will be getting a NAS box when I move house too :)
