Bit of backstory first.

Just bought myself a 2006 Golf GTi, I'm 25 with 1 year of NCB. Had my license for around 8 years, driving since I was 17.

Comparison sites seem to be quite unreasonable at 1200£ compared to using say Bell insurance which I've found to be giving the best quotes so far at around 770£.

Any more specialist places I can try? The reason I ask is that I found Bell from you guys and they are easily my best quote so far.

Try some specialists such as, sky, chris knott, adrian flux and noel dazely. Admiral are generally quite cheap for young drivers with performance cars also.

I would seriously doubt you're going to get it a great deal than 700 odd in the current climate with only 1 year NCB.

Find yourself a Golf forum, see who they recommend, and check out if they have any owners club deals going through a specialist, like Adrian Flux, or someone like that.

Yep! Register at golfgtiforum.co.uk, have a read of http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=51793.0.

Thread is quite old now, but martinb still works at HIC. If you phone them up and mention the forums, he's usually pretty good at helping people out :)

Any reason why in eight years of driving you only have one year no-claims? Could explain your poor quotes.

Its your NCB that's murdering you, that car is group 17 I believe, im the same age as you and paying £700 a year with bell for a group 19 import with 3 years NCB

Yes you guess correctly.

Foolishly haven't been building up my own NCB. Reason I don't have insurance on the car yet is because I'm 25 in 2 weeks time, so I'm waiting for that to roll around as Bell seems to knock off 300£ for that extra year.

Thanks for the advice upto now though, I appreicate it.
