Mattress suggestions

Maybe spend the £80 on a firm mattress to act as a good base and then choose a mattress topper to suit your requirements. I'd recommend this mattress topper as lovely and soft and provides a really comfy night's sleep! I've heard that memory foam is a bit hot to sleep on/in!

Now for some reason I dont like the idea of getting stuck in the bed I like moving about (fidget a lot during my sleep too) are they as comfy as they say? Or avoid at such a cheap price.

I find sticking a duvet under the bottom sheet of the bed really helps make even a crappy mattress comfortable.
 
My advice is save as much as you can and spend it on the comfiest mattress you can get. They're supposed to last 10 years.

sorry to say it but probably £700- £1,000 for a double would be about right. Go to John Lewis etc and try them out first.
 
Well I just found out my Rents where going to chuck out my old bed. So one free double mattress WINRAR! :)

I will eventually buy a decent one, for when I get old. Up untill then any old mattress will do.
 
when it comes to beds, dont skimp. Bought a nice Millbrook bed and matress. proper wooden base with springs and a proper pocket sprung matress. never slept so well in my life.

I can't agree with this enough ... few years back I needed a new mattress and as I prefer a fairly firm one I picked one up that was very hard.

Couple of weeks later the muscle which runs from the base of your spine to the outside of your hip went into spasm ... this put (a lot) of pressure on my sciatic nerve. This equalled immense amounts of pain.

I was off work, (well working from home actually ... I couldn't sit as that put pressure on the problem area but I could work lying on my stomach) for the most of the next 9 months. Had a couple of relapses in that time which allowed us to narrow the cause down to the mattress and was on various nasty drugs for the pain and to try and fix things enough that I could go for physio.

So my advice would be; please please try before you buy (or try in shop and then buy online ;)) and don't skimp on the quality and don't get a really hard mattress.
 
After doing a lot of investigating and bed testing in bed shops I found that I really liked pocket sprung mattresses with either memory foam or latex, I was advised to avoid big brand names (silent night/dreams etc etc) and went for a La Romantica Madrid (turnable pocket sprung mattress with 2" of memory foam) for ~£500, not exactly cheap but a lot of people recommended it on http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.php?t=2255713&highlight=la+romantica+madrid and I have a bad leg from a motorbike accident over 2 years ago and have trouble sleeping on most beds.

I ordered from Bedlum Beds who give a 14 day satisfaction guarantee so if I don't like the mattress after sleeping on it for a few nights I can exchange it for a different one or get a full refund.

Well it arrived today and it's a beast didn't even think at the time it's a full 10" thick, so now sleeping much higher of the floor. I don't mind but worth considering. I would also say this is firm not medium or medium-firm. Again suits me fine I rather have a firm mattress but they are hard to find cheap.

the eBay seller has his own drivers, they phone you up and very good coms. However they only come once a week, so if you aren't in thy day you need somewhere to leave it like a garage with the door on the
latch.
 
you'll have to let us know how it goes after a night of Z's, very tempted to buy one of those! Only problem with buying a mattress for two is getting the damn missus to agree that im right :p

a lot of beds are fine for a night, its how they cope after 6 months thats key. Most fail miserably.

I have a kingsize one of these and its amazing, girls allways complain its too hard but after they have experianced it a few more times they moan less and less :p I think they say you have to be over 9 stone to actually get the best out of one.
