Anyone else ever get anxiety attacks/panic attacks?

I've got them every now and then for the last couple of years, but recently they seem to be getting a lot more frequent. Its generally after a heavy night out, about 24 hours later. Its horrible. A couple of weeks back I had a full on breakdown on the Sunday night, ended up walking around my street with no shoes on, topless, jogging bottoms rolled up doing breathing exercises trying to calm myself down at 5am.. Was not an experience I want to repeat, but I can sort of feel one brewing tonight. Sigh.

Sorry mate, no medical threads. This will get closed fairly quickly. There could be many reasons ranging from physical issues to simply being tired or stressed about something. The best advice anyone can give is to go and see your doctor. I wish you all the best :)

stupot grow up mate, he's asked for some help. Don't make jokes of it.

You know, just an idea... stop drinking? :/

Diagnosed with Anxiety and Panic attacks at the age of 15. I'm now 19, have my moments but don't get them anywhere near as much as I did do.

In my bad times, I'd have a panic attack a few times a day. Anxiety is a horrible situation to be in.

You have to find a diversion to snap your self out of it, much easier said than done, trust me.

I never took medication for the anxiety I had, however I had counselling which helped me in a great way. It helped me to understand the anxiety, why it happens and how to avoid it.

And Alcohol is terrible for causing panic attacks, it's one of the reasons I stopped drinking, it just made my anxiety 10x worse.

Stay off the beers until you get yourself better and go and see a Doctor about the issues you have.

If you wish to talk about it more, feel free to drop me an email in trust and I'll be glad to respond.

Didn't think it would be considered a medical thread, apologies to the Mods if it is - I'm not looking for advice, just seeing if anyone else ever experiences anything similar.

As for smoking weed, I stopped when I was around 18, as it started making me really paranoid instead of actually enjoying it. I do still do other things, and I have noticed that certain things in particular really, really don't help the situation. But again, this is all quite a recent thing and I'm just starting to think I really need to do something about it.

Stopping drinking is starting to become a real possibility tbh.

Indeed, can't be that awful or you would have stopped getting bladdered.

Not really. Some people see getting hammered as a good way to relieve the Anxiety. The relief is obviously short lived though and later the anxiety gets much worse - It's because of this little window of relief that people turn to alcohol in my opinion.

I never turned to alcohol my self, but I know a lot of people who have because of anxiety.

If you've never had anxiety, you really don't know how bad it is.

Well this stuff REALLY doesn't help. You need to sort it out unless you enjoy panic attacks that is

If you are taking drugs you really are not helping your self. Get real dude, if you want to get better, get off the **** you're taking and get on the road to recovery.

No one else can help you get through anxiety and panic attacks, it's 100% down to you and you've got to make the decisions and take action in order to get better.

I have never had it (as far as I know :p). So I may have been too quick to judge, as what you are saying does make sense.

Still, this is all part of the reason Medical threads aren't allowed I suppose, surprised it hasn't been locked already!

do you smoke weed?

A freind i knew started to get them badly after a year or so of heavy smoking. They never went away

I've known quite a few people to suffer the same fate after heavy weed seasons, one girl I knew it ruined her life after just one session of smoking, she just flipped out on the stuff, had an attack and went unconscious, seriously people think it's a safe drug and I'm sure for a lot of people it is but for a minority it can be devastating.

Alcohol is major depressant and can create heavy doses of paranoia/depression/hysteria the next morning. Cut the drink down and/or drugs if you do take drugs.

Without calling you a liar.. Really? That sounds very, very unlikely to me. Granted, it can ruin people over the course of a few years, but not after one joint.

I really didn't expect this to turn in to a medical thread, was just seeing if anybody ever had anything similar. What has been said in this thread has now raised a more medical question for me though, which I'm going to throw you in an email Gamer T.

I'm obviously wrong... this isn't going to be closed soon.

So I will offer some more advice. Is it the drugs or alcohol causing it? Quite possibly. Or it could be that they expose other areas of your life that you are worried about. Either way, when I've been through some bad times in life I've avoided drinking excessively because of the affect it has on my moods. I'd suggest cutting back until you know what the cause is.

I feel for you. Like everyone in the thread already said, cut the drinking and whatever else out completely for a long period to balance yourself.

See a doctor ASAP.

Excessive alcohol consumption can cause symptoms that could easily be attributed to panic attacks such as feeling out of breath, shallow breathing, irregular heart beat/increased heart rate, high blood pressure etc., and will make you generally feel physically awful. It happened to me once (last year), and I eneded up in hospital. I didn't drink much either (5 beers), but it was a contributor in causing it for me, along with a lot of stress.

See a doctor and drink in moderation until then.

It happens to some people, not everyone is compatible with weed, she didn't have just one joint, she had quite a few and it was her first time, she probably had underlining mental health issues that wasn't apparent and the weed just brought them to the surface.

Anyway with regards to your panic attacks, You'll be ok mate, just don't try to fight it otherwise it can get worse, a panic attack can feel like the worst thing in the world but nothing can happen to you, you've got to keep that in your mind, it's a case of retraining your brain, fear will only make it worse, panic attacks feed on it, you've got to stay positive, it helps a lot, even chanting can help, yes I know it sounds silly but it works, say "day by day, hour by hour, minute by minute, I'm feeling well in every way", repeating stuff like this to yourself can send a message of well being to the subconscious part of your brain and can have positive effects, if your brain believes you are well you will feel better, it's a case of mind of matter.
