chanting can help, yes I know it sounds silly but it works, say "day by day, hour by hour, minute by minute, I'm feeling well in every way", repeating stuff like this to yourself can send a message of well being to the subconscious part of your brain and can have positive effects, if your brain believes you are well you will feel better, it's a case of mind of matter.
This one of the reasons chanting is part of meditation. To the OP get yourself into Yoga it really helps. Make sure you go to a class which practices breathing.

It doesn't agree with me at all either, but nowhere near to that degree.

Though it's rapid onset and elimination makes it useful for certain patients.
