Panic attacks

chanting can help, yes I know it sounds silly but it works, say "day by day, hour by hour, minute by minute, I'm feeling well in every way", repeating stuff like this to yourself can send a message of well being to the subconscious part of your brain and can have positive effects, if your brain believes you are well you will feel better, it's a case of mind of matter.

This one of the reasons chanting is part of meditation. To the OP get yourself into Yoga it really helps. Make sure you go to a class which practices breathing.

Sorry mate, no medical threads. This will get closed fairly quickly.

Wrong, understand the difference of talking about medical conditions with other people who've experienced it to actually asking for advice or giving advice. Rules state no medical advice is to be given or asked for, OP didn't ask for advice. Just asked if anyone else ever had it.

Please don't be a part of the ever increasingly odd viewpoint that any thread mentioning anything medical is not allowed because it's wrong.

Like me, I had a condition which I shared with people just so I could get it off my chest and see if other people have it, but I didn't ask for help or get given any.

The only person who can is a doctor, so go see one OP!

I've known quite a few people to suffer the same fate after heavy weed seasons, one girl I knew it ruined her life after just one session of smoking, she just flipped out on the stuff, had an attack and went unconscious, seriously people think it's a safe drug and I'm sure for a lot of people it is but for a minority it can be devastating.

That's pretty extreme .

I know people have different effects, but I'm just a bit shocked that she "flipped out" and was unconscious from a few joints. Sounds like she must have taken something else, or the weed was contaminated.

It happened, and no the weed was not contaminated, there are cases of people suffering from cannabis psychosis after even small amounts of weed, I'm sure this only happens with a minority of people but it can happen.

EDIT -

Just to clarify, she became unconscious because of the severity of the panic attack that was induced by the weed,, she was hyperventilating that bad her body shut down to gain oxygen, it's like a safety mechanism.

An understanding of the fact that every person may react differently to foreign chemicals, synthetic or natural should help people understand why things like this happen! :)

Thanks for your replies guys, like Chris said in his post, I just wanted to get it off my chest really. When I try speaking to my friends about it they simply can't relate, I don't think anyone really can unless they have experienced it themselves.

I can imagine chanting helping a lot as I found steady, rhythmic breathing helped me a great deal. I'd be interested to know as well, for those of you who have experienced anxiety attacks, was it ever related to alcohol/drugs for you? Or would it happen regardless?

As for the weed girl, sounds shocking - Poor girl :( It doesn't agree with me at all either, but nowhere near to that degree.

Cannabis is known to be anxiogenic and there are numerous case reports of prolonged dissociation and anxiety problems after a single use, taking drugs recreationally when you have a mental disorder is a terrible idea, sedative drugs with a short duration like alcohol are prone to increase anxiety when they wear off! Clearly, seeing a psychiatrist and psychotherapist would be a good idea if you are having panic attacks.

I can tell you now for a fact that any Doctor will tell you to cut out weed and at least lower your alcohol consumption considerably if your suffer from anxiety, ask your Doctor.

And like 'Energize' says you should get referred to a psychiatrist/psychotherapist for more help.

I don't touch weed, haven't for years.

Seeing a psychiatrist might well be a good idea, I guess why I haven't ever spoken to a doctor in the past is because I've never been entirely sure what I'm experiencing is even a panic attack. From what others have said though, pretty convinced it now is.

I'm not sure if you're joking or not.. But I think I'll stay well clear of that as a solution :D

To be honest, I think I'm just going to quit drinking - Its been a long time coming. I dont know if I'll ever be able to though; I'm a very social person, and pretty much everything with most of my friends involves drinking.

I'm still paying for it five years down the line:(, an extremely underrated substance!

GBL/GHB sorts anxiety out.

of course it then makes it much worse when you stop though :o

GBL is not proven to be safe and no doctor will prescribe GHB for anxiety these days, addictiveness aside. :p Though it's rapid onset and elimination makes it useful for certain patients.
