I cant receive MMS messages on mine!

I can send them ok but not receive! I've used handcent and the default messaging app and they just sit there saying downloading!

I've tried downloading the settings and entering them manually from the Orange website!

Can anybody help?

Try doing it while you have a WiFi connection. If it works then it is probably just bad signal/slow connection...

I'm still on the standard firmware... Vodaphone still aint pulled there finger out.

Debrand, trust me. The RF???14 is pants compared to the minor improvements made in RF???16. Voda are waaaay too slow, de-brand and update via SE, you will be much happier!

I think it is a mixture of SE and UK operators. It seems our part of the world is overlooked when it comes to updates considering an update came out in parts of Europe and South America. Furthermore there may be an even more recent update in China (but not 100%) and now one in Japan. Don't wait around for Voda and get debranding, look a few pages back on this thread and Andy has posted the files and guide - it is easy peasy (don't forget to back up anything on the phone side)

I'd recommend de branding the handset to R1FB001, this is a Nordic version of the firmware. If you change to this firmware it mean they you will receive firmware update much sooner the UK. If you need any help or files let me know.

OK I've seen this phone going for around £300 on ebay now which is approaching afforadability.

My questions before I jump ship

My Windows phone (xperia x1) has sublime support for direct push exchange mail with scheduling for peak times.

What does the xperia x10 do in this regard? Direct push exchange going to be a problem?
The UI looks bloated. Is there any way to go the simple one?
Some reviews mentioned it is a bit sluggish but have the updates fixed it?

The only thing sluggish in my few weeks of use, is the lock screen and when mediascape is loading information from the net. Once its loaded, mediascape runs very smooth.

Also £300 doesn't seem special. I bought it for £285 inc, sealed and unlocked (wasn't advertised as unclocked but o2 contract phones are are) 3 weeks ago.

Note that vodafone contract phones are also unlocked.

Removing branded firmware is easy, although o2 had no branding but a still a non generic firmware.

Quick question, I have heard about all of the benefits of debranding, but if I debrand, will my Orange care and warranty be null and void?

You can put old orange firmware back if you back it up. However, if your phone is dead then it may not be possible. Will orange or SE even be able to tell?

It's a risk you take. If orange are already on the R1FA016 build, then there are few benefits to unbranding. That is the latest build for the UK even on generic phones.

Orange are currently still on R1FA014. Only reason I ask is because I have heard they are notoriously slow at approving updates.

dont know what oranges policy on it is.

vodafones firmware policy says if you use alternative but still official firmware then you lose the warranty with vodafone but still have the 1 year manufacturer warranty

1. No, from what i have read they are fine.

2. http://www.pdair.com/

3. The handset comes with one pre-installed

4. I've not seen any on the market yet.

I hope this helps, if you need any info just ask :D

Andy

I just ordered one from the CPW, the guy on disconections sorted me out with a better deal than the sales team... It arrives today, hopefully its been worth the wait!

Gonna order one of those PDAir cases for it! :D

Techincally, its pretty hard to brick your handset. However, there is still a small chance.

I still cant receive MMS messages!

I get the message but it just sits there saying 'Downloading'. If I send a message to myself (to test!) it comes through successfully but an MMS from any other phone just won't download.

Anybody else had similar problems?

Is this on a debranded handset?

Anyone having Gmail problems? Last week or two; it doesn't sync or retrieve new mail when I go online. It also doesn't send emails on time (sent one on a Sunday and it didn't send until Monday afternoon). Just tried sending a test email to my account and it took 10 minutes to send :(
