The guy lives by himself, is a taxi driver and has fired upon a taxi rank, killing another taxi driver.
13.25 BST It looks as though the gunman targeted at least one taxi rank and taxi driver during this morning's shooting rampage. Derrick Bird, the suspect, is himself a taxi driver, according to neighbours.
Meanwhile, the public are helping to spread warnings about the gunman via Twitter - so much so that Citroen Picasso, the brand of car he was driving, is now a "trending" topic.

13.12 BST North News reports that a member of staff from Strandz 9 on Duke Street in Whitehaven says: “We heard a loud bang and one of our customers came running in to say that someone had been shot.
“We went outside to find out what was going on and there was lots of police and the road was in the process of being blocked.
“We saw a body lying on the floor, it was a taxi driver and he was dead.
“I think his name was Darren and he had been shot in the head. I didn’t know him but I have heard he works for himself and he is in his 40’s.
“The gunman had gone by the time we got outside.
“The shooting happened right at the taxi rank.”

13.01 BST Our crime correspondent, Sean O’Neill, reports: “A neighbour of the suspect says that Mr Bird works as a taxi driver and has lived alone in Rowrah for more than 15 years.
“James Campbell, 68, said: ‘He was a good neighbour, I can’t say much more about him. He was always pleasant and never caused any problems as a neighbour. He always spoke if you met him outside and never was in any trouble that I know of.’”
Mr Bird is apparently known as Birdie.

“But when we actually got into the hairdressers someone came in saying somebody was shot in the face. We went out and he was actually lying there, dead.”

Cumbria Police said in a statement: “Police are asking if members of the public see Derrick Bird, or his vehicle to contact them immediately on 999. Do not approach him.
“He was last seen heading south in the Central Lakes direction. He may have abandoned the car and be proceeding on foot. Armed police are currently working to apprehend him and advising members of the public in West and Central Lakes areas to go indoors and stay there until further notice.”
They now confirm “several” fatalities and a number of injuries after the shootings in Whitehaven, Seascale and Egremont. Ambulance crews are in attendance across the area and the North Cumbria University hospital has initiated its major incident alert .
