Gunman on the loose in Cumbria!

Would you rather us turn into American even more?

I'm not saying we should be like America.

But consider this - half of the north-west of this country is now paralyzed, scared, and afraid to leave their houses, all because of 1 man.

Is this how we should all be?

Can't believe you just said that.

Would you rather us turn into American even more?

I'd rather we accepted that laws don't actually help prevent these things, and can actually make them worse, as well as penalising a large number of law abiding citizens.

Would you rather we didn't have the crime reduction effect from CCW?

What the hell!? Ban Shotguns?!!! Kiss my ***

Ha my thoughts exactly. All the townies here seem to be ignoring the thousands of people that go clay pigeon shooting every weekend or take up the fine winter sport of game shooting. The countryside has suffered enough under Labour, I hope this new government won't take such a reactionary approach.

The report from the doctor there was shocking. Said he arrived in the tiny little village and bodies lying dead on the pavements, blood flowing down the street :(

Should get the army on the streets.

you're also forgetting those that use as part of their daily work usage

This is one thing you can not justify, allowing more people to have guns and increasing the availability of them will increase gun related crime, just look at America.

How has it made it worse? So by saying that the previous Government shouldn’t have had the arms amnesty, you are suggesting that the people of Cumbria should be out on the streets pursing the man with their hunting riles?

army cant act as police.

I think we should wait for a) this gunman to be apprehended and b) a full and proper investigation before debating UK gun law.

army cant act as police.

correct, they can only act as police by a act of parliament. though the sas,sbs and srr can act as support for the police upon request by the home office. Though may be a bit over kill for this situation..

Remove the gun related, and look at crime as a whole. Also remember to split the USA into states and look at the gun controls in each one. That is unless you're someone who thinks the severity of the murder is determined by the weapon used...

No, but I'm saying that he might well have already been stopped if we weren't so paranoid about legitimate gun ownership.

Has it actually been established whether this gentleman is a FAC holder yet?

You're right, we should have scared armed citizens hunting for a man whose only description is 'an armed man'.
Yes, that'll end well.

Blatant troll is blatant

back on topic,
i thought the crack down on firearms is supposed to prevent this...

Yet another failed labour law.

My simplifies go out to the families of those dead

then some nut job group will argue his human rights were violated...

A farmer with a legal shotgun and no history of mental illness......you can't make laws to stop that unless you ban all guns.

That'll be about 1/10th of a properly loaded shotgun then, with full or extra full and a heavy load of size 2 or 3.

from the deaths from strikes id guess he's using light gauge pellets as anything bigger would result in allot more deaths.

thought he was a taxi driver???

And no they bring in extended laws for air rifles, .22 lr rifles and yet haven't brought in pysch analyis that actually might prevent incidents, such as this happening.

How so? there are probably hundreds of shotguns in farms around where he currently is, I'd still rather it was a police officer that intervened than some other nutter with a shotgun...

Working out of the Westlakes Science Park in Whitehaven, Cumbria and still got my delivery from DPD today. Keep up the good work OCUK and DPD.

On a side note we are all crapping ourselves. :S
