Will you be swaping the Desire for an iPhone4?

Its not a straight swap. The iphone will almost certainly work out at least £10 more expensive per month for 18/24 months than the Desire.

The iphone not only would have to be better than the Desire, but £180/£240 better. For some people it might be, but for me it wouldn't even have parity because I like fiddling with my phone.

I have used android for about 9 months and I think it has many positives. The new iphone is mainly very attractive to me because of a better browsing experience.

Why do you think that? OS4 AFAICT is not going to bring anything better to the browsing experience (although a possible resolution upgrade may) so Android/WinMo (using Opera) are still the phones to beat for browsing.

Dont forget Maemo, the N900 has a beast of a browser on it! Shame it's dying :(

Just picked up on this, I went from a Hero to a Desire and the browsing experience is vastly improved. Easily as good as a 3GS IMO.

I have just had my hero stolen and am in line for a hefty insurance pay out.

The appeal of possibly picking up an an iphone (for the first time) is:

- should have a higher resolution, which should be good for browsing
- faster loading webpages.
- not having to wait for htc to prepare an update after google releases a new version of android

.

do you know something we dont know ? cant imagine apple beating the speed of the google browser. they cant do it on desktops so why would they on the phones ? the snapdragon android phones are as quick as it gets

Indeed, I was very impressed with the Desires browser, coming from an N900, which is considered by many as the best browser available.

It's lightning fast, blows my old 3GS out of the water. (Both tested on 3G/H and Wireless).

Right first no way would I go back to apples shoddy Mr simple OS ,so no.I wouldn't.
Secondly people are still comparing Apple store to android? Wtf??? Google have said that this year android market will be vastly.improved with a massive amount of apps added and there well on track to making that happen (2.2 , new marketplace system etc,SD card installs.)
Apple store.barely had.anything on it once remember , its like the only thing the iPhone has going for.it at the moment and sorry theirs more to. Phone then.how many **** apps/games you can by for it.

The only thing I would swap my desire for is an imported Evo 4g which hands down is the nicest phone ever

Good point! Honestly even if the iPhone was £10 a month compared to my £25 a month Desire I'd still keep the Desire.

There is nothing that can compare to Android at the moment, especially iPhone OS, and the Desire is simply put the best Android phone and it would take something pretty special for me to change phones now.

*laughs while reading thread title*

*laughs while realising op was serious*

*laughs at such a thought*

*laughs all the way out of the thread*

That's how I see it :p

Well put Khaaan!

I should stop writing all these long posts about why the Desire is better and just accept you can't help some people :p :(

Depends on battery life on the new iPhone. I seem to have failed in my quest to swap my desire for a 3GS so far, so I plan to wait a few more days, flog the desire and my Bold 9700 and pick up the new iPhone in the US.

Is 300 about the price I should ba asking for my Desire and 200 for the Bold do you reckon?

If the iPhone was cheaper in contract I would probably go for that, no need to cut off my nose to spite my face but I would miss the HTC widgets

when i ran side by side tests with a 3gs and desire, the iphone finished loading the page faster, it also renders information on the page as it is loading. The desire loaded then displayed information.

The reason for this was a cheat- the iphone wasnt loading flash where as the desire was.

There is an interesting consumer issue here for me. Most websites I browse are optimised for iphones, so they load very quickly and everything works well. However, it is a restricted experience without flash as the information has to be presented in other ways.

The desire gives me an unrestricted browsing experience but it comes at the cost of speed e.g. do a speed test on the gamespot website, the iphone was winning hands down for me in terms of finishing loading while the desire has to work with the flash content

I am undecided whether this annoys me or whether actually, because I get information quicker on an iphone I prefer it.

Incidentally, I have only ever used an iphone for a week after borrowing it from a friend and have had a hero for 9 months or so.

The HTC/Desire browser will let you turn off flash content, so maybe compare then? Also, the 2.2 browser will let you set the user agent to an iPhone which should mean websites designed with the iPhone in mind should work just as well.

God, I think I'm starting to sound like a fanboy :(

this has already been done, the pages load considerably faster than an iphone when flash is disabled. 2.2 will further boost speeds.

Lets look at the original question from a more practical point.
Most Desire owners have only just got their handsets and are 1-2 months into an 18/24 month contract.
Maybe people do replace their phones after such a short period of time - I know I don't.

That aside, even if I wasn't only 2 months into my Desire contract there is no way I'd move to an iPhone.
iPhone 4 is adding features that Adroid 2.1 already has or will soon have in 2.2.
There is just nothing new from Apple in this one.
Sure the App Store is great and that alone can sway some people - but from a hardware point of view....nah.....I'll keep my Desire thank you.
