Peugeots, most hated cars?

I had a 206 gti, for my sins. Truth be known, after a few decent suspension mods, it was a good handling little thing, quite torquey too. Reliable too, suprisingly enough. However the moment i drove a Clio 172 about a year later I realized the gulf in ability. Soon after I drove a 205 gti 1.9 and fully realized what an dissapointment it was by comparison.

They're not really 'normal' cars though, are they? That's like saying a Mondeo ST220 is a normal Mondeo. Well, it is... but it isn't.

Yeah but they were still cheap as chips! I have very great difficulty in moving away from my 106 GTi as it ticks so many boxes for me.

Peugeot have admittedly gone downhill recently , however I found the build quality of the very latest stuff just goes beyond Renaults latest additions, the twingo I feel is DIRE!

Anyone stupid enough to buy a 307 deserves all they get tbh, they are widely known to be completely **** (granted this excludes new car buyers :P they were just unlucky:D)

306 was a great car imo, as were the older cars like 205, 309, 405 etc

The 106 GTi I will always love and miss when I eventually get rid, fantastic little car that still gets the occasional ear to ear grin even after 3 or 4 years :)
 
my cheapass battered 306gti6 is absolutely flippin awesome. and its been caned by god knows how many people.

love it though. seemingly reliable, and immensely fun to drive. :)

newer pugs are poo though
 
I've had a 307 for 5 years now, and I've had a few minor problems, but basically anything that needed doing was my fault.

It is a good looking car IMO, and is fine for A - B. Fairly comfortable as well!
 
I bet third of the posters on here have never ever been in a French car?
I would never buy a ford they rust ; )
I would never buy a BMW made by Nazis ; )
I would never buy from a British car maker ops there is none ; )

As I have never been in a French car also fox talked me out of buying a oil burning 206 to replace my focus. So are French cars really that bad?

No mate they aren't.

You buy enough/deal with enough cars and and you'll soon find out they ALL have problems. there are good and bad cars made out of any factory. I've an old T reg Rover thats been in my posession since it was about 2 yr old. Apart from the usual things like tyres etc its had a new starter motor. Others i've seen blew the cylinder head before the engine was run in.

It really doesn't matter what you buy if you get a bad one (which is where these stories come from) it will put you off one brand or another.
 
Problem is, there is/was a greater propensity with electrical/mechanical troubles in the 206/307 era compared with other cars in their respective classes. Not hugely so, but enough to be talked about and noted in reliability indexes.

Dynamically they were disappointing compared to the previous incarnations. (205/306) Add to that the problem that they really dont offer much in terms of stand out features (could be argued the 206 looked "cool" when it was released), it doesnt help their cause, reputation hangs around for a long time after.

Just ask Alfa, Skoda. One of them has pretty much recovered from their past image, the other is recovering i'd say. Taken a while though.
 
I'm not suggesting French cars have German build integratory or Jap reliability, I am suggesting they have made some good, fun and generally reliable little cars, for they have. We had 3 Pugs from new and never had an issue with any of them. I also worked in a Pug dealers when a yoof during my summer holidays and the Pugs were no better or worse than any of the other brands I serviced.
