'New' car advice

Have you suddenly come into money or something? Just seems odd that you've been running about in an Astra.

So what is important to you, prestige, performance, or both?

If all else fails just ask Spie would be my advice.

And since you flush with cash, do us a favour and buy Iand a car with your pocket change, you'd be doing everyone a favour ;) ;)

Not that odd I think. It was my first car when I was 21 and I just started to work and it was about six months to a year old. As far as first cars go I would say it was pretty damn good. It will probably go to my brother now so I wanted a new car and thought hey why not just splash out if you can 'afford' to.

Cars are not investments (Except in some VERY rare cases), splashing out 50k is a bit frivolous is it not?

You can have a very nice car for 25k and under and it is quite apparent you have no real interest in cars for their driving offerings. You want a 10 plate on a BMW/Merc/Audi/Porsche etc for the "appeal"?

I am going to be totally blunt. This is a willy waving exercise, your criteria now is by playing Top Trumps between cars.

They are all different!!?

I don't know if I am being obtuce here or something but I could happily own any one of those four cars (except maybe the porsche due to size/seats). Is it just not possibly to say this car is just generally a better car than another car without over analysing my needs.

(In your opinion what performs better, looks nicer or even depreciates the least.) or what other cars are very similar and comparable to those selected.

carvegio, you are asking which greyhound will be best in a horse race.

Futile endeavour.

Looks are a matter of opinion, not fact.
Performance/practicality of those 4 cars cannot be simply compared on a like to like basis.
You do not buy any of those 4 cars with the depreciation being the deciding factor.

As for what other cars.....you mean which out of 100s if not 1000s of cars and 10s of makes can be compared to the BROAD criteria those 4 listed satisfy as a whole?

I wouldn't of put the Cayman in the list personally besides for the fact it was mentioned a couple of times and I thought maybe i was missing a certain view point by not including it in the list.

I still like the look of it and it does tick a lot of boxes but just not as many as the cls or m3.

Carvegio, problem is what do you mean by "performs better"

It's akin to asking who performs better...lead singer of Muse or Wayne Rooney? Both perform well but...

If you can't tell the difference between a 4 door luxury saloon and a 2 seater sports car donate your 50k to charity or something. It's wasted on a car.

you obviously dont have a clue what you want.

May i suggest that the only way to decide, is to find out for yourself and actually go test drive some of these cars.

From your computer chair, the differences between a CLS and a cayman may seem superficial. Go and drive and feel the cars, then you'll understand what me mean when we say they are like chalk and cheese.

To be blunt you are partially correct I do want a car I can be proud of in person and as you so elequently put it 'willy wave'. But that is not my intetion for this thread.

I really don't know what I want but I have some more ideas now. Maybe I should have just posted if you personally have 20-50k what would you buy?

Because my actual needs are few!

As said, go and test drive them.

You'll find one car that you really like, and just buy this one. None of the cars you have suggested are "bad" cars as such.

Of course I can tell the difference, but they both tick certain boxes but the cls ticks a few more. But I still like the Porsche. I don't have 50k in cash either I would need financing to work up to it right now.

What would you rather own the cls or the cayman? And why if you don't mind saying. I am just looking for different points of view.

Repeat after me, in a rhythmical and harmonious fashion.

Go test drive those cars.
Go test drive those cars.
Go test drive those cars.

I agree.
Do you mean for 1 lap of the Nurburgring? Which car goes from 0-60 quickest? Which one corners the best? Which one has the highest top speed? Which one is most comfortable? Which one is easiest to drive quickly? Which one handles better on a track? Which one handles better in real life?

It's akin to asking who performs better...lead singer of Muse or Wayne Rooney? Both perform well but...

Pfft, that's easy - Matt Bellamy!

Why are you setting your budget at a value you can only reach with financing?

I can understand if you had 3k in cash and wanted to spend around 10-15k on something nice but you are talking about finance to the tune of 50,000 of your (and someone elses) Great British pounds.

This is madness.
