Just building a new rig for a freind and wondered which will be faster and in anyway he can sacrifice something for a better GFX card?

I think the Intel will be faster? But he's really on a budget to £400 will be justified?

better to get a previous gen card for the same money, such as a 4850.

As a general rule of thumb:

Code:
n670 = 90% of performance and 50% of power consumption of (n-1)850

5670 is a good card, it's just a little overpriced at the minute. What exactly will they be using it for?

Phenom II X4 925/Phenom II X2 555 - £80-£115
Asus M4A77 - £55
2GB DDR3/4GB DDR3 - £45-£90
WD Blue 320GB 16MB Cache HDD - £35
SATA DVD Writer - £15
Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro rev 2 - £15
Coolermaster Elite 330 - £25
Corsair CX 400W - £40
GT240/5670/4850/GTS250/5750 - £60-£100

Agree with most of the above post, I wouldn't consider the GT240 for gaming though.

Oh i don't know, the 4670 is still a 'gaming card', no?

Yes, i know, Tom's Hardware. It's pretty capable, 40nm and is well priced. Probably the last 'good' release from nVidia.

All this talk of rubbish graphics cards is boring.

+1 Stulid got it right, that 5770 will make a world of difference. First proper budget card tbh. Anything below is weaksauce.

If he can stretch to a 5770 I would definatly recommend it, the best price/performance card out there. The i3 will give better performance as it has hyperthreaded dual cores givng it virtually 4 cores over the 2 the AMD has.

But, if he had exactly £450? And he has the option to with mine, just taking him over budget :)
5670 1GB at £93 is poor choice for graphic, as HIS 4850 1GB is just £80 and much faster.

Also, Phenom II X2 545 doesn't have unlocked multiplier...550BE/555BE would be better alternative.

So stulid's build is pretty much the best balance between performance and money. Sure it's £15 above budget, but for a 5770 1GB is well worth it.

My 5750 is weaksauce? I beg to differ, playing on 1920x1080 with medium settings and getting very high framerates I fail to see how people don't even give this card a chance. Sure for an extra £30 you could get the 5770, but in my personal opinion, I really don't think the 5750 is a bad card at all.

Core i3 alternative to stulid's build, however it's most likely to be slower in gaming (5770>4850). Always good to have an option though:

You can drop the price to almost £450 with delivery if you choose Patriot memory over Corsair.

I'd go intel, I didn't attempt it yesterday, I didn't think it would ft under the £450 mark, and it almost did :)

stulid's build does offer the 'possibility' of unlocking extra cores as a bonus for the 555BE with the MSI C45 board, but that is of course depending on luck :D

I would choose the i3 530 if I was getting a 5850 or 5870, but if only using a 5770, I'd probably take my chances with the 555BE for the extra cores :p
