*** The Official HTC Desire (Bravo) Thread! ***

If your set on Orange, I think Mobilephonesdirect.co.uk and Mobiles.co.uk send out unbranded handsets.

Debranding is really easy anyway, probably a 20 min job.

Personally, I'd go with T-Mobile as they have the better FUP, 3GB compared to 500mb hard cap. They're also merging with Orange soon, which will provide coverage as good as Orange.

Ta, just had a chat with the guy at work who's got one on T-mobile and the coverage he gets is better than I thought it was.

There really isnt that much branding on the Orange Desire from what I can see, ive had far worse branded phones in the past

From what I've read on the net they've added a load of app demos and a few of their own versions of apps, plus they've disabled Google Talk.

Anyway looks like I'll get it on T-Mobile.

Cheers for the help.

Post your megaflops ;)
Need camcorder though among some of the other not working bits.

Is there a wiki or some source of info in one place?

This is a great thread but 200 pages and a lot of background noise make it hard to extract the useful info.

eg. What Roms are out there? What do they do? What problems with them. When is Froyo due out (end June I hear)? etc etc

The Modaco rooting guide and ROMs are at the top of this page while the XDA forum has the res of the ROM releases here.

Bookmark both but I think most of people's time once rooted will be spent on the XDA link as ROM updates and information travels instantly there.

I have decided to get this phone (currently on a G1!). What I can't decide is to upgrade through T-Mobile or cancel with them and order through mobilephonesdirect or somewhere else but still stay on the T-Mobile network - I'm not too bothered if my number changes.

If I upgrade I stay on the Flexi plan that I have been on for the past 18 months, is it worth me staying on that plan or changing to a completely different one? I get something like a £200 allowance on this Flexi plan, I barely use up any of this. T-Mobile are asking for £60 to upgrade if I stay on the Flexi plan.

I guess my ideal plan is something like £25ppm - 18 month - Free, I see that MPD has this but are they a safe bet?

Khaaan, what widget are you using on your home screen above the calendar? The one that displays the time and weather.

Cheers

I rooted last night and flashed Sparta with the help of Robboftw... cheers Mate :)

Sparta doesn't have tethering built in... which wifi tethering app did McR 3.1 have?

Launcher Pro doesn't seem as responsive on Sparta for some reason - there is often a 2 second delay between when I tap an icon and when it changes orange and actually opens :( Maybe it is something to do with SetCPU underclocking the processor? Is there like a processor graph which shows me when it goes up to maximum etc?

Brafro (Froyo) Rom, Camera flash is apparently in sync and wifi hotspot/tethering works!

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=697532

Going to flash it shortly.

Let us know how you get on!

This is from the guys who have sorted out the official source code, so they can keep the Desire up to date with the N1 in future!

Not working:
- Ambient light sensor (works, but not calibrated)
- Camcorder (reboots the phone)
- Dock on USB
- Facebook contacts sync

Not much left to fix now! Unsure about the battery issue but they said it may be fixed.

It was a pleasure ;)

Aha! It was SetCPU! I uninstalled it and now Sparta and Launcher Pro are flying again :)

Maybe SetCPU isn't as good then

Cheers for the advice that an Orange one can have any ROM put on it, will start reading up into this and especially this MCR 3.1 I keep seeing Khaaaan spam :D

But Orange isn't bad either if you get on the Panther tariff which is a 750mb FUP rather than 500mb hard cap.

I upgraded my phone and stayed with Orange. The branding got annoying for me after a while, so I've rooted it and put Sparta on it. Took about an hour all in, even with Windows 7 not liking the batch files at one point.

Enjoying the phone much more than I was and the programs list is easier to go through now that the 6 Orange applications have gone.

Could be a stupid question, but presumably flashing a new ROM bins everything like my SMS inbox? I'm guessing rooting doesn't?
