Valve has a surprise for us..

I think that news would both excite me and disapoint me..

Excited because if the source engine is anything to go by when it was new, it'll be awesome, but disapointed because i was really hoping for the release of new games

If both happens then even better, and it would explain why EP3 has taken sooooo long

Cant find the link, but Gabe Newell confrimed its not EP3.

I think it's a bit rash to say anything has been confirmed yet, even if he said it via his own voice on a video, it doesn't confirm it, they obviously want the "surprise" to be just that, a surprise, so there not going to say "oh damn you got me, its EP3" :p we'll just have to wait and see

(considering how many geeks nerds and...gerds are going nuts about this it doesn't surprise me that there are 101 theorys knocking about, which after going through 1000 hands change from theory to rumour then to unconfirmed fact)

id love a new cs on a new engine, something to breethe life into again and have atleast a few months of cheat free community based fps goodnes all over again.

I do hope it's not to be honest. Ep3/HL3, whatever the continuation of the story is, on a new engine, will ruin the continuity. All the environments, characters, guns, everything will look different. It would be okay if there was a few years gap in the storyline like HL1 - HL2, but this is supposed to carry on straight afterwards.

You know, I wouldn't be surprised if it was them dabbling at a movie, after all The Purchase Brothers at a convention mentioned in december last year they were under an NDA by valve about a movie, in fact I was even surprised they could mention they were working on a movie at all.

Same guys who did the short fan film.
I'm not sure if it would follow any of the main character in half life, as we don't really have an ending for the game yet, maybe follow some others, a prequel, or something completely different!

The thing is though the continuity is already ruined; the episodes were supposed to be released every 9 months or so (so Ep3 was due in 2007 based on the original schedule). It's now fast approaching three years since Episode 2, which is the sort of timescale you are talking about for full-on sequels on new engines. I can hardly remember enough about HL2/Ep1/Ep2 to be able to notice continuity breaks if they were to put out a new engine.

If you look at it from a technical perspective, Valve won't want to release something looking old and dated. People are already modding the look of HL2 (Fakefactory etc), so it's obvious not everyone shares your concerns.

id be more miffed at a HL3, id like a proper conclusion to the hl2 saga, if valve have any sort of sense hl3 will be well in production with episode 3 being polished for release, id be able to live with a new engine and i different look to the game, as said the storys got a big enough gap to make an engine change not too much of an issue.

EP3 on the old engine would be a bit silly since it started showing its age even 2-3 years ago.....yes it would still sell but thats only because we love valve & Gordon Freeman :p
im really hoping it's something to do with HL3 or a new angine.....or maybe they made a new horror game after seeing how scared we all get when playing L4D (joking coz im never scared).

A few months without cheats?

Keep dreaming :P I give it 3 days from release until cheats appeared ;)

Hoping for Episode 3, not holding my breath. Episodic content my ****

Nothing is going to satisfy the hype now except a new engine with HL3.

If they just showed ep3 that would be a disappointment tbh.

If they show any game with any sort of zombies well then gabe can go **** himself.
