Valve has a surprise for us..

When did you first get into games? For those of us who grew up in the 80s today's games aren't anywhere near as hard as the arcade ports we all played back then. And in the 90s we had genuinely difficult original games that weren't arcade ports, but kept the difficulty high.

I mean I'm glad and all that many things have moved on since then, but kindergarten difficulty games don't really do anything for me :/

Since mid-2000 we've had little of anything that can't be finished with your brain on autopilot.

I guess I should add that there are at least two kinds of difficulty. One requires lightning reflexes and precision movements, the other a little creativity or planning and strategy. I'd rather have the latter. I don't mind coming face-to-face with an encounter that destroys me, as long as there is a clever solution that makes it easier.

If the only solution is to have cat-like reflexes and a 20,000 DPI mouse, I'm not a big fan of that kind of difficulty. But I don't think Portal 2 will be that kind of game.

Oh right, I'm 19, and I only started gaming from 2002 onwards really, so I guess I've been brought up with easier , 'quicker to satisfy games'. I actually hate being stuck in a level in a game where I can't get past, after a few goes I lose all interest and sometimes never play the game again (often simply leaving for an hour and coming back solves the problem instantly).

Admittedly, after saying that I just managed to play through Portal in 2 hours 12 mins :p

Yeah i know what you mean, it will be interesting how much they plan to sell this game for on pc.

Not sure I will be buying it, only played Portal since it came with the orange box and was a blast but not really what I'd call my cup of tea. Unsure whether I'd be willing to pay retail price for it although that's in no way an indication that's it's a bad game.

EDIT: Looking at the videos it does looks like the source engine had a healthy update though so that's good to see.

Those E3 vids are mental, keeping an eye on this, hope its at the same price point as the previous one.

Finally bothered to go through and complete HL2 ep 1 and 2 this week.

Now I can join the "We want ep3/HL3" brigade!

Standard price for a brand new retail game I believe though if you feel that's too expensive then you could always wait for it to come up in a sale. Also, it'll probably be available to pre-order on Steam with a discount both for a single game and for a pack of 2 or more.
