Labour Candidates

I have no issue with top level politicians being well educated nor from what party they are.

An example of what I do take issue with is when Labour politicians launch attacks on ' toff ' Tories due to a priviledged background while conveniently forgetting the likes of Harriet Harman come from said priviledged backgrounds with private education and relations who are titled members of the establishment.

BBC said:
Ms Abbott - a left winger who said she entered the race because she wanted to offer an alternative to the white, male, middle class New Labour field.

This is why I hope she falls flat on her backside during the contest, for bringing race and political correctness into a situation where it is not relevant.

That and because Harriet has backed her although I am not surprised at all.

My money is on Ed Balls. I would laugh everyday, it funny enough now but as Leader of the party "Mr Balls..." seriously..

I wouldn’t want some uneducated thicko from a comprehensive standing. It would be a recipe for disaster. I think that you’re reading too much into this Oxbridge thing.

coming from a comprehensive and attending oxbridge aren't mutually exclusive

on the general subject of the OP - oxbridge attracts highly ambitious people who've worked their *** off to get there, highly ambitious people who are prepared to work their *** off are more likely to do well in politics

Imagine if he became the Prime Minister... ;)

"President Obama has spoken to Prime Minister Balls to congratulate him on his victory."

The Headlines in the Daily Liar would be excellent...."What a Balls Up", springs to mind, and that's if he wins.

But seriously does he have the "Balls" to do what's neccessary to win....:D

Im with you on that one...no need to bring race and political correctness into it..smacks of desperation if you ask me.

How about "Milliband drops Balls from cabinet" if he doesnt win ?

All five of the candidates for the leadership of the Labour party are Oxbridge educated.

I'm sure it sounds like a nice idea in theory to have a binman or some guy who dropped out of school aged 16 and got a job on the tills in Asda as Labour Party Leader, but in reality they'd be screwed if they ever got into government.

Like it or not, we need properly educated people in control.

So to be properly educated it needs to be Oxbridge?

Education or not, they can still end up making a royal **** up of things.

I would dissagree.

I don't think the binman could do much worse.

So true, Prescott being the best proof of that

Not neccesarily but it stands to reason that, on balance, the majority of the most well educated people in this country will have been, so there should be no shock that they keep appearing at the top of society.

Oh I do, very much so. Most people have no idea quite how complicated things like running a country actually are.
