Valve has a surprise for us..

It's working OK for Telltale Games and their episodic Sam and Max games

Surely you can see that a point and click adventure is MUCH easier to make than a chapter in the Half Life franchise?

I think episodic games are still a fine idea. Valve are just the worst possible dev to attempt it. The idea can be used successfully by any other dev if they really wanted.

Valve just dont make "Episodes" though.

They kind of make a mini series. That is why we love them soo much.

Oh for sure, but the difference between Telltale and Valve is that a) they've kept their releases regular and episodic, whereas Valve have essentially released DLCs for HL2 as and when they feel like it as opposed to keeping to an episode schedule b) Telltale have kept people informed about their releases and have a superb communications regime. The difference between an Indy house and a well established house I guess?

I understand your point Randal24, I just think you chose a bad comparison.

Regarding Telltale, with their chapters, they dont release/announce the first one untill the other chapters are either completed or just needing final polish/changes given from comments on previous chapters.

They dont release the First one then start from scratch on the 2nd chapter, how well would they keep with their schedules then?

The reason why they can keep to a strict release schedule is because they allrerady pretty much have the games "in the bag" when announcing the release schedule.

They are also taking money off people upfront so their hands are VERY much tied.

That is like Valve not releasing Ep1 untill Ep3 is nearly finished - LOL

Imagine the anarchy.

Another day and another rumour about this "surprise" announcement:

a source has pointed GameZone to a supposed screen capture from Valve’s website, revealing that the big surprise in question is none other than Counter-Strike 2.

Guess it kinda makes sense as Counter-Strike invariably is the number 1 game played on steam. However I can't help but say I am disappointed if this is the surprise announcement.

Because they're the same damn game released within one year of each other, use your bleeding brain.

Yes, because of course Left for Dead 2 is exactly the same game as Left for Dead 1. Oh, wait, its not.

Personally I hope it isn't CS, it would have to be exactly the same, movement physics, jumping, controls, weapons, essentially a lick of paint. Otherwise it would be a new game itself.

But it has no story, nothing new, I want something better to look forward to!

It is a Portal surprise still guys :) So relax:

However, Valve today stated in an email to games media:

'To ask questions about how close we all came to dying, or to ask futile questions about the previously announced E3 ***PORTAL-2-THEMED-FOR-GOD'S SAKE*** surprise or, less futilely, to schedule an appointment to attend a Portal 2 screening at the Valve booth during E3, please contact...'

It's also been delayed till 2011, so it could still be HL3 ;)

Considering the first announcement was in the GladOS style, I would put money on it being a Portal themed announcement.

I think the announcement is to do with cake. Probably telling us the cake IS a lie.

I'm not sure this makes sense seeing as CS is about to get an update / overhaul anyway. Also, CS appears to be more than a game, but more of a religion! Remember the outcry when CS:S was released? The whinging? The millions of people who refuse to leave CS1.6?

I'll be dissapointed if it is this tbh, unless a new CS would mean it would be fun again, not just full of people who shout at me all the time.

Maybe it is a new ip. Maybe it is a sequel. But why not both. What if it is a new Valve super game called Counter Half Portal Fortress 4 Dead (you heard it here first!)!!!!11
