*** The all new iPhone 4 thread - Keep all iPhone 4 stuff in here ***

My 3GS went in the post to o2 yesterday so I've been without an iPhone for a day. I miss it already and will really struggle now until the 24th.

Be strong - I couldn't do it :p I'm selling after I've made the safe and successful transaction to the iPhone 4 :p

Looking forward to the 500Mb limit. 3% of users using 36% of the network is insane and probably the reason it used to take AGES to connect and get working! Seems to have improved a lot recently though :)

I use my iPhone quite a lot but only for mail/light web browsing, and have used about 2Gb in a year.

It's those constantly browsing Youtube or tethering (without paying) who should be annoyed about the change, and quite rightly so.

Edit: And as luck would have it, I'd send my 3GS back to o2 recycle in perfect condition except a week ago I was out and didn't have the cover on it (couldn't find it) and it got accidentally knocked out my hand, went flying, and has lovely scratches on the sides now meaning less ££ for the recycle. Ah well!

It's actually 0.1% of users using 36% of the network.

lol glad I never got a HTC desire, me want iphone now!

What sort of contracts are you guys on that are going to be buying the pay and go version, or are you actually going to use it as pay and go?

I'm 6 months into a 24 month/£25 per month 3GS contract with 100 min/unlimited texts and data. The plan is PAYG iPhone 4 + my contract sim :)

Waa waa waa. Poor little O2 (and AT&T) who offer "unlimited" data and then cry when they use it. I've read the statement from O2’s Chief Executive Ronan Dunne and it is a crock of ****.

Just like we used to have "unlimited" downloads for our broadband and then guess what? People use it and all of a sudden a lot of broadband connections have caps or traffic shaping (I'm looking at you Virgin Media).

You're making enough profit from smartphones and broadband connections so how about you shut up and invest in the network and stop making excuses to charge customers more.

Just my 2p.

To be fair, I support them clamping down on really heavy data usage - the minority of people shifting gigabytes of data cause problems for everybody else who uses an average amount. I thought I was a fairly heavy user but after checking I only average 150mb a month!

The truth is high data use wasn't totally expected, and since this all happens through the network's device, they want a way to profit from it. Data is the only thing they can control and charge for, if the appstore etc is from Apple, then o2 etc, want in on the money.

The explanation by o2 is just a PR thing. Would you rather them say "Hey we just want to charge you more now!"

Need some clarification: my current o2 unlimited data contract runs out in December '10 and if I just carry on paying, will o2 automatically convert to the new capped tariffs? I am guessing they can't but heard different.

Exactly - they've lost control of the subscriber and now the revenue from value added services is dropping like a stone.

The 'next big thing' that all the mobile operator vendors were attempting to push last year was mobile advertising but Google/Apple and MS have basically shafted them on that too..

So that leaves the operators with data, voicemail, SMS/MMS and speech. The voicemail/SMS/MMS are being attacked by cloud based options and speech is already having to be defended (hence no VoIP over the network).. leaving data..

In short, in one move, the operators have been relegated to bit pipes (just like broadband) and the grip on the money/value that they once had has been stripped by iTunes/alike and the applications access to cloud services.

I always used to criticize "geeks" who have to have the latest iphone and use the upgrade early deal (complete waste of money) even though they still have about 6 months left on their contract. But this time I fall into that bracket and, well, sod it :D

Got a brand new 32GB 3GS off insurance 2 weeks ago so hoping that will fetch a load on eBay unlocked then £120 to upgrade early. Should be able to get a 4 for little unless they slap a stupid price tag on it. Wasn't the 3GS just over £300 for the 32gig on release?
