Game moments which you've just thought.... "My goodness"

Aeris' death and the boss fight right after. I was so vastly underlevlled which greatly added to the drama and tension. Plus I was about 8 so I was almost weeing myslef :D The way the music continues throughout the battle is simply epic.
Another from FFVII is the Sephiroth/Flames scene. Wow.

When I was playing Crysis the first time round, my brother was sitting with me at the point at which I entered the zero-grav zone - we were literally both speechless for a couple of minutes.

Every cinematic from Diablo 2 and Warcraft 3...they're simply amazing. Blizzard definately do THE BEST cinematics.

One nobody has seen mentioned yet (as this isn't on PC, oops): Shadow of the Colossus. I was so engrossed in that game it's unbeleiveable. I would literally ride around for hours looking for fruit trees and lizards. The best part is that I wasnt told by the manual, the game or anyone what those particular things did. I was so proud of myself xD Some of the fights in that game were staggeringly epic.

Another engrossing moment in a final fantasy game, for me, was Kimahri's 2v1 battle on Mt. Gagazet. Not only was he my favourite character, but one of my all time favourite pieces of gaming music gets played at the time. I was really into the emotional side of it at the time. That game actually, now I think about it, had a lot of those epic moments - like the failed wedding scene ...mmm...

When I was about 7 or, again, 8 I found the boss fights in Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped so utterly amazing I simply could not leave that out of this list :p Actually, the first time I got a platinum relic on that game......oh the joy...

The actual Jak & Daxter trilogy is definately one of my all time favourite series', completely filled with those moments

Sorry I didn't adhere to your PC only rule; but I simply couldn't resist sharing these moments!

Loads of these moments for me.

Most recently was probably Stalker:CS with my first bloodsucker encounter in the underground network. I was in my office at 1am, I had headphones on and I was messing my trousers at the whole situation. Just watching its beady eyes moving about in the dark and wondering exactly how I was going to kill it had me choked with fear and sweat was pouring off me. Then it noticed me, and I don't think I've ever been so frightened by a game before or since.

Excellent stuff with an atmosphere more tangible than any other game I've played.

As mentioned previously - the Bioshock 'Would you kindly' was also a brilliant gaming moment for me.

FF7 The start of the game, the end of the game and everything in between :D
That moment in KOTOR1
Some of the missions in Guild Wars.
The final mission in Mass Effect 2
FF8 assassination attempt on edea, seeing esthar for the first time, the lunar base and ragnarok.
Returning to City 17 in Half Life 2, getting the upgraded gravgun!

lol you beat me to it!

Final Fantasy VII the intro and that music... amazing!
Aeries death..
Whole game was mind blowing, best game ever made.

Tech Demo Intro on PS3 of FFVII intro.. shiver down my spine :)

First Raid Kill in WOW, epic.

Final Fantasy 10, wow it had voices in the game! Real voices! :P

Classic counter strike days, playing till 6am with your mates , being late for college, uni, work.. all the above.

final scene on Modern Warfare where you take the shot as your bleeding out! :D

Mass Effect graphics after intro and you realise it's all in game! Amazing

Endless Sunken Matches on Starcraft

Half Life when the troops start coming in to take you out, amazing

Half Life Blue Shift expansion where your the security guard banging on the door from the original half life intro! Snarks! amazing

FF7 The start of the game, the end of the game and everything in between :D
FF8 assassination attempt on edea, seeing esthar for the first time, the lunar base and ragnarok.

Those really did have some epic moments and cut scenes.
must not download over psn, must not download over psn...

..... i don't think my resolve will last that long. :P

I'd also add the ff9 and crisis core endings for great wow moments for me, just because they were so memorable when i played them, oh and the ballroom scene from ff8, that was some snazzy cg work given the technology at the time.

I bought mass effect but never got around to playing it, its still wrapped in plastic, along with Prince of Persia, the cartoony street fighter like one.

I got them because they were on 2 for £25.

Wolfstein (on my mates 386)
Syndicate (same guy, 486 this time) still my favourite game of ALL time
Theme Park as it was amazing, how can you have so much fun managing something
Dungeon Keeper (just when you think you cannot get any more devious, you can)
C&C1
xcom3 - lost hours playing and experimenting with this
GL Quake (first accelerator card I owned was voodoo2 and death match was never the same again)
Quake 2 (mushroom cloud explosions, the kick from the machine gun! Most satisfying minigun & dbl barrel shotgun in gaming?)
Unreal (the moment when you leave the prison ship will stay with me for a while longer)
Half life has so many genius touches that you could start a thread just for it
FF7 only game in series I have played, in fact I bought it again off ebay last year and spent hours fiddling with my pc to run it
GTA - Hang on I am stealing cars and running over monks
GTA4 (after it got patched) best introduction after HL1 and a huge world
HL2 & episodes; Ravenholm, fighing in the dark in EP1, the strider battle in Ep2 (finally an ending worthy of a great story like HL)
Portal for wow factor
Championship Manager 97/98 the pinnacle
Bioshock

Loads, a lot of them already mentioned. but a stand out one that hasn't was my first few hours in Planetside during its peak. Ive never experienced battles on that scale since, absolutely epic.

Most recent for me was the first 20 minutes of God of War 3, the scale and scope of imagination there was simply amazing.

Lots of good times.

One that sticks to mind is some town in ww2ol where we were defending, and doign the usual waiting around, and then lookig up and seeing dozen or so paratroopers dropping in. Awesome sight.

I managed to shoot a few, but as usual got shot :)

Medal Of Honor: AA - the omaha beach level
Mafia - pretty much from start to finish was wow to me
Metal Gear Solid - the AI in this game was incredible in those days :D

deus ex, so many from that game. one in particular is when your to have to decide to assassinate the nsf guy on the plane, also the bit where your talking to your bother in the room in hells kitchen and the unatco guys appear outside the door to get him, you can just leg it out the window and leave him or try to fight them off and save (which is pretty hard) its just a moment i didn't see coming, all of a sudden the theres a loudspeaker telling you to surrender or something...

MGS2, the opening scene was incredible with snake running along the bridge with his active camo before leaping off onto the top of a tanker, that was 'breath-taking' graphics, better than anything i had previously seen.

Killzone II, the whole game, the game looks so damned good its unbelievable, it looks great, feels great and plays great, perfect PS3 shooter..!

Total Annihilation, where to bloody start with this game? the first time i built a Krogoth perhaps, i was awestruck by the sheer devastation the thing dished out, the soundtrack was superb as well..

Halo: Wars, all of the sublime cutscenes throughout the game were brilliant, if they made a Halo movie like that, it would be **** hot..

far cry 2 standing on a beach looking out seeing the shimmers on the horizon/ocean

breathtaking :)

graphix's for me beats gameplay hands down.. i love it when something looks amazing :)

Ending of Call of Duty 4 & Many moments in Modern Warfare 2 :)

And pretty much the entire MGS series :p

Also agree with "the moment" in KOTOR :p
