How do I go about sorting out this mess?

Should have kept it friendly and taken the money, you can never be sure there is cctv or witnesses so unless it is blatantly obvious it will possibly go 50/50 etc. I would be worried the money he paid didn't cover the damage etc and might panic and do the same thing but you now might be in a worse place.

Ah well at least you have his address. ;)

Good luck.

Did you get any photos at the scene?

Nope. I totally should have though. I only had my phone on me and it takes terrible pics at night so I doubt they'd have been of any use.

Don't contact him direct, bad bad idea - it's in the hands of your agents now. That said, you could suggest they take a look at the other guys car and see if there is damage that matches your story.

The CCTV is perhaps your best bet - if you can get hold of it then maybe you can track down potential witnesses through the reg plates? Can't remember whether that is OK or not.

Hey there

Sorry to hear about all this, if you still need a solicitor I cant recommend highly enough David G Bell Solicitors, 02894 466444

Are you sure that there wasn't an impartial witness there who is now answering their phone, with no obvious links to you, who can verify what happened.

Isn't perverting the course of justice an offence for which a member of the legal profession can be de-barred?

Of course it is. He hasn't perverted the course of justice though, he was involved in an RTA which wasn't reported to the Police. As insurance companies are dealing and no offences have been revealed then he is guilty of nothing more than being a ****.

Except for the obvious data protection issues. Full CCTV footage can only be released to bodies which are exempt from the DPA - eg the police. For it to be given to you, they would have to edit out everyone elses faces, registration numbers etc - some will charge, some will just say no

Just quote section 29, paragraph 1 ... for the prevention or detection of crime. That is the section I always used when I need info when working in Fraud.

but the problem you have is if its a car park, and its private land then his insurance may not pay out anyway, thats probably why he offered to pay out himself, so that you would not call police there and then or take photos, and he could deny later on, looks to me like he knew what he was doing and just tried to fob you off m8.

There really is some gits out there, today a taxi driver hit the back of my car, min damage,
pushed the bumper back and knocked the parking sensor out with scuff on the paint,
he said he would pay for it, I took it to a local body shop for a quote,
£200+vat he gave me the money about an hour ago and the car booked in for wednesday.

only if its a private car park, car parks which the public have free access too such as at supermarkets or petrol stations are considered extensions of the public highway and normal road laws/insurance apply
