Sorry about the delay in response, work has been full of madness today, just got home now and I started at 9am

If you really need me to then I will.
Yes you can have an accident in any type of car, but a powerful car in inexperienced hands is a recipe for disaster. The slightest thing could cause the car to respond in a manner an inexperienced person would not expect thus resulting in what could possibly be a serious accident. A powerful car in my sisters hands would be a catastrophe.
Interesting idea, bit too high mileage though.
Thank you for validating the point he made.
You took my comment the wrong was. I was implying average Joe on the street will see her drive past and think wow - they are the idiots not your sister.
No harm intended!
I do have to apologise, I was in an irritable mood earlier thanks to arrogant colleagues. After re-reading I realised I interpreted it personally rather than objectively. My bad
as others have said, i think you're being too controlling.
If she wants a soft top roadster, let her get one. She wont thank you for it in the long run.
But, if you must, the MX5 hardtop just has two clips. Its a single piece item. You'll need a garage or similar to store it when not in use as it is rather big, but it achieves the soft top thing and keeps security nicely. Also nicer when its snowy outside etc.. as the car gets warmer quicker.
Literally just lift it into place (its heavy) clip into place and jobe done.
I'm not bossing her around, she can get what she wants but I am trying to guide her wisley to avoid her buying something on impulse which she may later regret. A soft top convertible will be too insecure for the stuff she keeps in her car and where she parks. A powerful car will be too dangerous as she is unaware of how quick 350Zs and such actually are, a car as quick as my 325 will be more than enough for her. I just want her to be in something that will take care of her, not something that might, god forbid, kill her.
A conv with a removable hard top may be a good suggestion, what others are the other than the mx-5 and S2000?
She does sound like a lot of other people I know living in and around Manchester. It must be the superficial capital of England at the moment. I can understand you trying to give her a rational steer, I suggest it might be wasted. I guess wow factor means different things to different people. Wimin!
Manchester does have that sort of vibe to it. I'm not sure of her reasoning, but I think it's just to impress her friends as they all have "nice" cars (although one has a pink Daihatsu conv

)
3 series coupe? 320 or something as she won't be fussed on the engine, not sure if you can get a facelifted model for 8k in the smaller engines though.
You can as I got my 2.5 facelift for 8 n a bit. But for that reason she won't get one.
Are they not renowened for being a bit touchy in the wet? Espically the older models? No T/C either.
Yeah I don't think an S2000 will be a good choice for her.
As long as she has overtaking power, can cruise comfortably on the motorway and looks "flashy" then that will be sufficient.
I don't think there is much choice for the spec I have provided, say we up the cost to £10k and increase the mileage to <60k, any other suggestions?
