Which is better Iphone or Blackberry?

Apples and oranges.

Exactly. They are completely different devices. The BlackBerry is a robust business tool which is unbeatable for email, messaging and actually phoning people. The iPhone is primarily a consumer device - it's less useful for email and business tasks but the interface is brilliant, the browser is great and the App Store is a significant factor.

If I needed a phone for work, I'd probably get a BB and keep my iPhone for personal use.

Im a blackberry man too, I email a lot and the iPhone cant do push email and has no keyboard so that kinda knocks it out for me. Also I like to know in an emergency I can call an ambulance with a cracked screen or touch dial the cops with one hand while running for my life

Google has an implementation of Exchange Activesync so yes, but using the Mail app built in to the phone.

iPhone does push email for Yahoo Mail, MobileMe, and Microsoft Exchange. Google Mail has an Exchange interface so by extension the iPhone does push email for Gmail (As well as contact and Google Calendar syncing).

No it doesn't, don't fall into the marketing gimmick, they have perverted the meaning of "push" email just like Nokia, BB is still the only one with true push due to their patent

You won't get an impartial response in here, but both phones have their plus points. For email the BlackBerry is way better than the iPhone, but for just about everything else the iPhone is better, including web browsing.

Until OS6 comes out then i reckon BB will be just as good.

Personally BB is best for communication ie emails, texts, phone calls and battery life etc whereas for me the iphone is good at multimedia ie apps, web browsing etc.

Saying that for the first time ever im now considering the iphone4, due to tmobile soon carrying it and my contract is up for renewal so ill see what they offer me with regards to my upgrade.

Wont get rid of my BB thats for sure but having the best of both worlds ie iphone4 and BB will suit me fine. I have the HTC Desire which im going to sell at some point in the next few weeks...good alternative to the iphone imo.

And how is that then? The second i receive an email sent to my gmail address, it gets delivered to my iPhone... How is that not push? My girlfriend has a BB and it does exactly the same, so how is the BB better?

your G/F's emails are being pushed to her phone your phone is pulling the email from the server, that's how its different, you may get the emails at the same time but your phone will consume a lot more power (and data depending on plan) to do it

So it's a little like trying to pull a cart and trying to push a cart... It doesn't matter. I understand that you don't like the overall inferiority of the blackberry, so you'll have to pick on certain things that it does better than the iPhone... But come on now, at least find something worth mentioning to pick at ;)

They both do the same thing at the end of the day, i get my email just the same way that she gets hers.

eh ???

LOL i've owned contract phones for over 10 years now and never once needed such a feature. What a bizarre thing to say.

Blackberry > Android > iphone > other

Fixxed:p...seriously though all those devices have their own pro's and cons....choose what fits your needs best.

Blackberry push email works in this way

Blackberry said:
By using an Network Operating Center (NOC), the BlackBerry method represents the most battery and data efficient method for push email. In a lay person’s term, the email is forwarded to your BlackBerry by the RIM-operated NOC only when there is email. And even then, only the first chunk of email is sent. In the absence of email, nothing at all happens, and your BlackBerry behaves much like a normal mobile phone.

As you can imagine, unless you receive a hundred emails an hour, enabling push email on the BlackBerry does not normally result in any noticeable reduction in battery life.

RIM is able to do that because of your BlackBerry registers itself with your Telco, which forwards the information on to the RIM NOC. The result is that the NOC now knows exactly where to forward your emails to. This is also the reason why a normal data plan is not adequate to give you BlackBerry email services.

No other device does it that way and thats why with the BB you need either BIS or BES if your in a corporate environment and trust me i use BES and compared to Winmo, Symbian, Android and iphone...nothing and i mean nothing comes even close to what the BB push email system is.

Theres a huge difference and thats usually seen in the battery life dept...BB's are rock solid when it comes to battery efficiency as the push system hardly uses any battery because its always connected to the server...other push email systems arent connected but rather poll so use battery power to retrieve emails.

And no read my above post and you will see that BB's get their email in a completely different way to other push email systems.

As for picking on better things??..well the battery life on the iphone sucks at the moment ie turning off push notifications and at some points even turnig off 3G...hopefully the iphone4 will rectify that. Secondly you can hardly get a signal on the iphone...my brother struggles on O2, a friend of mine struggles on Orange and another friend struggles on vodafail...all here in london too. Could be network problems but i doubt it in all honesty.

Absolutely spot on. I use a BB for work and my iPhone for personal use. If I had to use a BB for my own daily phone then I'd go crazy. The BB is a business tool and does email superbly and that's about it.

I have been a blackberry user for sometime now but its major downfall is how poor it is for websurfing. Its just so slow even on wifi. You wonder if the bb needs more RAM or a faster cpu as it can never load a whole page in one go.

The iphone flys through webpages and you should see it browsing ebay compared to the bb.

I just hope this new smartphone from bb corrects this major problem or I will have to bite the bullet and try something else. Does anyone have a date of this new touchscreen smartphone from Blackberry?
