Portal 2 has been announced but..

So Valves big announcement was Portal 2? No new HL game? no new HL episode? No new Enginer?

Hahaha... roll on Cryengine 2.

i dont get why everyone is being so uppety about this.

there will still be heavy pc development... no one has said there will be no pc exclusives, no one has said there will be no more pc development, no one has said there will only be console games for ever more from that exact moment.

Stop reading into things so damn much.

I guess because Portal was very much a decent novelty game and the prospect of a sequal is about as exciting as watching a coronation street omnibus?

Oh my god, there was no big announcement. The big event was cancelled in lieu of a Portal themed surprise. If they wrote Portal and you read Half-Life, is that their fault?

So true.

The difference is that those games were made for the pc and then later ported to consoles. Games now are made for consoles and ported to the pc. That's why current games are never much better on pc

you talking about dev teams that dont give two monkeys what the hell their customers want though.

That is NOT valve. Valve listen, they care, they let their followers help out, listen to ideas, implement content etc.

Valve have talked about their dislike of the PS3 architecture many times before, the idea that the PS3 will become the lead platform is bonkers, and they have released a number of titles on the 360, all inferior to the PC counter part and they aren't poor ports.

This is Valve, they have a great relationship with their audience, why would they ruin it now.

Also consider this, while everyone knows the consoles are the key to big money, Valve understand the PC market better than anyone else. If you release a game on Steam and pay Valve royalties, you still make a significantly larger profit than if you went retail, and if you are Valve.. well, you have it made.

They are in no hurry to abandon the PC.

Pressure to what exactly? It is a simple money making exercise. Much like PC gaming valve are trying to monopolise the download market on console by being the first (which has both good and bad points to it)

Iunno, what with DLC having to be paid for and all that because of Live on the 360.

I don't have a problem with Valve expanding to be honest.

well if valve start making more money then good for them....aslong as we dont get shafted with console ports i dont see the issue.

Which i can easily say we will. some people stick up for them saying "its good buisness" but they seem to forget when its "good buisness" usually the original end user gets shafted with a **** product because of profit margins.

Ports. yummy

Who cares if Portal 2 is going to be on consoles and who cares if Steam makes it way to consoles as long as there is a PC version of everything why would anyone care! The PC versions will always be better looking and play better for those that are willing to invest, let the consoles have their lesser versions and pay more for them its just business and more money for Valve to make better games and services in the future, should be a winner all round

They released orange box on Xbox. This will not effect the PC. What is the issue here?

If I were a game developer I would chase the cash. By investing heavily in all 4 platforms you can make a killing.

Lets be honest, Valve and Steam ARE PC GAMING.

The only possible answer is that PC for games are dying. Valve know that, and are trying to give us PC gamers a signal that it's the case and are readying us that HL3 is going to be released exclusively on next gen consoles.

OR

They simply want to make more money, stop whining because PC will look better, have more mods available, and control better.

everything valve do is basicly halflife with different textures and models.

they need to show they can do something new before they get more tired looking than they already are.

Oh I do agree, when the F are they gonna use a new engine already, you can only keep upgrading it for so long.

Oh dear, people love a good old hissy fit.

I personally would love it if Steam came to PS3/360, and to be honest it's heading that way, both systems have on demand services and digital downloads etc, it would make sense to use steam as a distribution method.

I would love to have digital copies of my games on my consoles.
