..cost

ordered my iphone via my work,
will arrive friday, and i just bought the handset outright,
cost £539
not sure if that is over priced but it is like anything if you want it before everyone else you pay a premium.

For anyone else confused about the e-mail that states the phone is reserved but at the bottom in small print says, "first come first served".

I Rang my Apple shop and they said that if you've reserved one it will be there no matter what and won't be sold to anyone else.

If anyone else can phone the store they've reserved with and make sure that's the default and not just a misinformed shop person and post back I think a few of us wouldn't have to worry so much (I've sold my old phone so need another asap!).

Wow, they're really shooting themselves in the foot with that decision...

Not really. They don't have enough for everyone, so they're looking after their customers first. Wouldn't surprise me if the other networks did similar.

Give it a few weeks and they'll be easy peasy to get hold of, it'll only be the launch day rush that causes trouble hopefully.

Do you need to bring in print out of reservation that you receive in email, thats what the guy in apple said. IMO he didn't sound like a knew what he was talking about can anyone shed some light on this?

As I'm with them that's made my day :)

Just a follow up to this... I wish to retract based on a conversation with O2 CS... very helpful this time around:

Chris: Hi there. My name's Chris I am an O2 advisor, may I take your name please?

You: Hi Chris, I'm Philip.

Chris: Welcome to O2. What brings you here today?

You: I'm interested in simplicity for the iPhone.

You: I was thinking of getting a 1 month simplicity plan. This includes unlimited data and wi-fi, correct?

Chris: Yes you get unlimited access to the internet and wi-fi as well.

Chris: How does that sound?

You: Sounds great. I understand though O2 will be introducing a 'cap' on this free internet in October. If I sign up to a simplicity plan today, will I still have unlimited data and wi-fi after October?

Chris: If you sign up today you will keep that unlimited allowance on your contract until you decide to cancel it.

Chris: That way you can be guaranteed to beat the cap

You: So to confirm, even though it is a 30-day rolling contract, I will get unlimited data/internet regardless of what happens in October?

Chris: That is correct.

You: That's excellent news. And if I got this today, could I use it with the new iPhone 4 launching next week?

Chris: Yes if you want to use it in your new iPhone you can just exchange the sim for a micro sim and we will keep you on that tariff.

I've made my mind up, I'm gonna stick with O2. Better the devil you know....

Nail on head to be honest.

Yes, as far as he's concerned (and if I remember rightly), the 'usual' pattern for their launches are:

Early morning to 11am - busy
11am to 13:00 - average (people coming in off street to try and buy)
13:00- busy.

I'd disagree with that.

Like I said, I worked very close to the Apple Store and during the 3G launch it was busy with ques all day. I didn't buy mine until three days after the launch and I still had to que about 45 minutes before I was seen.

Morning will be rammed, because there will be plenty who want it first and want to be part of the opening and the fact that the cameras will be there too. You have to remember then that anyone who has pre-ordered one who isn't unemployed or off-work isn't likely to be able to collect their pre-order until lunch time or after work, so again you've got loads of people coming still at different times.

It was as the TV news reports pointed out at the 3G launch, there were people queuing for hours at the Apple Store, yet just a short walk away at one of the 02 stores, there were only 7 people waiting inline for one.

The long and short of it is, no matter what time of the day you go, if you want one on the day from Apple, regardless of whether you pre-ordered or not, you will be queing for a very long time.

The more i look at this thread the more grateful i feel for getting a very early preorder with apple...

I was planning on holding out for an o2 PAYG handset as well. End of July, no thanks.

Only existing O2 customers can get the iPhone 4 at launch due to stock...

http://shop.o2.co.uk/new-iphone/wheretobuy.html

that is stupid...

If your on O2 then they "have you" basically... They should be jumping the other way and saying that the majority of iPhones will be for new connections...

(i say the above as getting more for being an existing customers is rare in todays world)

What if they lose their loyal customers who can't upgrade because they've all gone to new customers. So they switch to Orange or Vodafone? Its better to look after your current customer base.

How do they 'have you'?! It's still up to the customer whether they stay with o2, it just gives them priority over new customers, which is what any good company should do!
